Knight Rider 1x02 "Journey to the End of the Knight" - Discuss/Spoiler

From TV.com:

To stop a weapons smuggling operation, Mike infiltrates a drag racing gang with the assistance of a former Army buddy.

Sounds a little more on-par with what we should expect from a Knight Rider series. Hopefully this episode will have a little more substance, less titilation (as much as I loved it) and less cheese. We'll see. I'm not optimistic for good ratings, though.

The CGI is too obvious... but not bad. The break I need before my test in 15 minutes.

since this show is in the same continuity of the original show all three people that held the molecular bonded shell formula are dead. So maybe the nano tech is compensating

Fun, lavish and sexy. I liked the episode. It does however look like they're sidelining Bruce Davison a bit too much. And yes, this show still screams "90s syndicated show", and that actually makes it different these days. Go figure.

By the way, what was on Sarah's bucket list? I want to know if I can handle 1 and 2.

That's what they did, didn't they? Then we saw that the EMP thing got him for real when his light came on and then flickered out.

Wow. That was much improved over the premiere ep and the 2 hr movie. I get this feeling the show is going to get better as it goes along. Among the highlights for me:

• It was really cool to see Sung Kang in this. I liked his performance in "Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift", and considering that was GST's series, it felt "right" for him to be involved.
• Much more interaction between KITT and MIke, including some of the "learning" GST hinted at. The last exchange at the cave was fantastic and shows KITT is clearly growing.
• Deanna Russo in a bikini. :good:
• Lots of car action, including a good amount of non-CGI stuff. The beginning race had a bit, but later it was almost all done on a real road, which I was happy to see.
• KR theme + racing across the dessert towards the camera = awesomeness.
• KITT's various abilities were used perfectly this time around, from the ticket printing to the laser. And now we know what the thingie in the back seat is! It also hints that KITT may indeed store extra raw matter to be manipulated.
• Really nice to see the Ford GT in action. The "standard" blue one in the beginning made me giddy as a Transformers fan since that's the "Alternators" form of Mirage.

Overall, lots of fun, good action, drama and tension. If the series keeps going in this direction then I believe it might stand a chance at gaining more of an audience.

KR theme + racing across the dessert towards the camera = awesomeness.

I was gonna mention that. It was a nice little homage. Then the next shot shows them on a dirt road surrounded by dry grass.

I also like that that KITT and Mike seem to be developing more of a rapport. They're also making great use of Sarah who I thought should have been KITT's driver.

I fell asleep -long day- before it came on but just got done watching it on TiFaux.

Meh. The show still misses "something" that made the original special and I think a lot of that something is in the characterization of KITT and his interactions with Michael. Which, honestly, is pretty much all that made the original work.

This show is just too much fluff, poor CGI, and too overly sexualized.

I mean, the scene of showing us the Asian driver in his car during the first race was hokey looking as all get out. Can't tell me it was better to do that than to do good-old reverse projection or to just pull the car through the real desert.

And the original KITT could acceletate to over 200 miles an hour in seconds without transforming. This KITT can hardly keep up with a, even a custom, regiular car without transforming and even THEN he still has a hard time keeping up?! The hell?!

And transforming in flight jacks him up?!

Is Brannon Braga writing for this show? Nothing make sense!

And the g-damn truck mode is just ABSURD. The attack mode I can live with, but the truck mode?! Arghhh.

I WANT to like this show, I really do, but it's not giving me much to work with. Right now it's just... "okay" just on the edge of watchable but it has a lot of promise to be so much better.

The interaction of KITT and Michael just isn't good at all. Watch the first episode of KR:TOS and see what I mean.

Michael: Who is that? Who's talking?
KITT: I am the voice of the Knight Industries Two Thousand, K.I.T.T. - Kit if you prefer.
Michael: I don't prefer anything. I want you to keep quite and listen to some tunes.
KITT: May I suggest that since you're in agitated state you engage the Auto Cruise?
Michael: No you may not! Now goodnight."
KITT: Goodnight.

Later on:

Michael: You know. You're about as much fun as a divorce. Which doesn't sound like a bad idea!
KITT: Well I want custody of me.

The interaction is just so much damn better.

If you can, seriously, watch the original pilot. It's just... so much smoother. Ugh.

I'll definitely agree there. The "real" driving scenes were so much better and exciting than the CGI ones. They definitely lose something every time the CGI is used for the driving scenes.

Well, there seemed to be disagreement between KITT and Mike on just how to approach it. First Mike tells KITT to "make it look good" but then he tells him to transform. To me, that hampered the effectiveness of KITT in either mode. If Mike had just said "Smoke him" I'm sure he could have.

And transforming in flight jacks him up?!

Why is that surprising? It's not the transforming, it's the LANDING before he's fully formed. His tires do undergo transformation as well, so it makes sense that he'd get damaged if they're not fully formed when he hits the ground.

Guess I can't agree there. I thought this ep had fantastic interaction with them. Clearly KITT08 is not as developed as KITT84 was when he first got partnered with Mike. I thought the final scene where KITT08 calls Mike his friend and cracks a joke was a great step in the right direction. The use of the cowboy movie as an analgous image to the two was also a great touch.
