Solid performances by all involved make up for any story short comings.Overall, it's best ignored - it's a forgettable retelling of a generic WWII tale anyway, with only the "Romulans are Vulcans!" aspect to pique our interests.

Wasn't the entire battle in "Balance of Terror" fought at warp?
Then they should have smoked the Romulans and cut them off at the pass.I do not believe so, since the Enterprise was hunting the Bird of Prey in a general area, and I'm not any character said they were constantly pursuing at warp.
Your theories are with out honor and have not been peer reviewed!
Per Star Fleet Battles, the D7 has half the labs of the Enterprise.
The D7 is also a smaller ship, though...
Which sort of fits the idea the Klingons were an analog for the Soviets. The Klingon culture had scientists, they just spent more focus elsewhere.
The D7 was supposed to be their equivalent of the Constitution Class.
When you say equivalent, do you mean in terms of class or function?
Is that in the Writer's Guide somewhere? (not a challenge, just curiosity!)
Totally agree. Such an exploitative and extremely pragmatic society would view science as a means to an end.I see TOS Klingons as pragmatic, exploitive, and aggressive. I don't think they would appreciate science for science's own sake; rather science is a means to an end. If it doesn't have an immediate application or need, it is ignored.
Nice that they never figured out how to off the Tribble.
