Klingon ridges

I don't come to this forum very often so I apologize if the question has been asked already. Anyway, when I saw Klingons in Trek '09 they of course had helmets on that showed a ridge pattern on their heads. I just assumed that they were given helmets in order to cover up what would be a point of contention as to whether or not Klingons in future Trek movies will have ridges or not. I'm just curious as to what others think they should or will do for the design of Klingons from here on out. Also, from what I understand the tattoos and shaved heads of the Romulans represented Romulans that were in mourning for those that died, but why do they look so different from the TNG era Romulans other than the shaved heads and tattoos??

The Romulans look different because they're a band of psychotic lowlife miners and not the upper crust Romulan military we've always seen until now. Plus, y'know, reimaginings of JJ and friends.
The Romulans glimpsed in Spock's mind meld scene ("I promised the Romulans that I would save their planet") pretty much had the Nemesis look, minus the brow ridge.

As for the Klingons, I'm certain they'll go with a new modernized version of the bumpy heads when we finally see them, simply because that's the iconic Klingon look (although as a die-hard fan I'd love to see a few human-fusion Klingons sprinkled in). I'd like something more subtle and realistic than the ridiculous pie-heads of Lursor and Betor from Generations.

I trust that Klingons are just as eager as humans to go to truly ridiculous excesses with the augmentation of their bodily attributes. Or did you think for a moment that those foreheads would be Mother Nature's gift to the twisted sisters?

That's actually a great idea. To have a few human-fusion Klingons along with the iconic Klingons would make total sense. One other thing that's been bugging me...why was Rura Penthe not full of ice and snow everywhere like we saw it in Star Trek: TUC??

One other thing that's been bugging me...why was Rura Penthe not full of ice and snow everywhere like we saw it in Star Trek: TUC??

Kirk was in the polar regions at the dead of a Siberian winter, ST Eleven was late summer on the equator.

Rura Penthe is a penal asteroid, not a spot on a planet's surface.

We saw them without helmets in behind the scenes shots (example- bottom pic). They weren't in full makeup, but the partial makeup they did looked great- far more natural looking. I hope they continue in that direction.

"TAT" was perfect: They gave an explanation without giving an explanation. Why ENT felt the need to have an entire two-part episode to explain what happened was completely unnecessary IMHO.

Me? I'd love to see the TOS-style Klingons again, even if they were only cardboard villains in the original series. I've had more than enough of the honorable-and-at-the-same-time-thuggish bumpy-heads for the last 20 years. Let's get back to ST's roots! Let's have an entire race of Snively Whiplashes!

I saw that explanation as a bit of tongue and cheek humor. I also don't think any explanation is needed. Klingons would have had ridges in the original series if they could have afforded them. So in my mind they always had them.

I have not seen that episode yet. Maybe I will have to check it out.

I would like to see a hybrid design more or less; humanistic to give that "TOS" feel, but with slight cranial ridges to symbolize that they are Klingons. Very much like we saw in the sixth movie.
