His confidence and experience, not to mention his belief that the 'no win scenario' doesn't exist and thinking outside the box even if it means disobeying regulations, undeniably is both a positive and a negative. In TWOK he ignores Saavik's reminders about regulations in regards to the USS Reliant, and pays the price for it in the blood of his crew.

Edit: @Abi Smith beat me to it by a minute :D :) :techman:

Tribbles of course. Tribbles 1 Captain Kirk 0

Kirk's pride/stubbornness in the Galileo 7 incident. When you've got "urgent" supplies or something do you really send your 3 best friends on a shuttle into unknown phenomenon. Also why send McCoy? I think he did it to spite Faris,

Kirk also was a bit too trusting of civilians who came aboard his ship mostly letting them travel around without proper security. I know this was done so we could get some stories happening but still..

    Good summation @Commishsleer :)

"Pride and stubborness" are definitely defining characteristics of Captain Kirk.

Ironic that we're only two hundred years before the time of Kirk and it already looks like computers will replace people in pretty much everything...

People today are like zombies anyway! They spend their entire life looking at their damn phones instead of observing the beauty around them like the birds and the trees! I'm so glad I don't have one of those ugly long boxes!

Stephen King made a book out of this phenomen: Pulse. People with cell phones were struck by a pulse and turned into Zombies..... They met an ugly fate....

Yeah someone told me about that the other day when I was moaning about the deadheads as they wander about staring into that screen! It really beats me why they're so crazy about them!!!

Shatner stated that he based his performance of Kirk on an idealized version of himself.

I'd hate to watch the version that isn't idealized.:guffaw:

In one of his books he relates a story about getting in an altercation with some tough guy. Shatner tried to do his famous flying drop kick and failed miserably.

That doesn't surprise me. I bet he pulled a bum-muscle (aka a gluteal strain) in the process. THAT HURTS!

IIRC, one of his daughters was with him and she prevented the tough guy from stomping Shatner into the ground.
