Kirk's Tunic Color?

It's strange how some fans will stick to the notion the command uniforms were yellow and it wasn't. As for comics I think the work should be presented the way the William Theiss envisioned it. The illustrations and the color technology are far in advance now then the days of GOLD KEY. The colors can accurately be done. I've chatted with IDW EIC Chris Ryall and he finds this discovery interesting and would willing to explore this but Paramount thinks the fans minds are too ignorant to be open to idea of making the colors correct. I say email Chris Ryall asking for the proper changes and he can inform Paramount that us fans are not as ignorant as we seem.

Strange way to start my first appearance to this board, but I'm glad to be here.

Actually, no, I never said Paramount thought the fans were ignorant, not at all. I said that Paramount was of a mind that the tunics have been colored one way for 30+ years now--the Gold Key run wasn't exactly up to snuff on likenesses or product correctness--and didn't see any reason to change. Especially with different printing processes where greens and golds sometimes print a bit differently than they were intended.

I'd also appreciate it if anyone used ryall@idwpublishing.com, not the address listed above, since that's not my work e-mail. But any petition this case won't hold sway over Paramount in any case, they/we don't see a reason to change from what fans are already comfortable with in comics.

Hehehehe. Any attempt to present command TOS uniforms as green will be met with hundreds of complaints. Fans telling IDW they got it wrong!

The animated series chose to use gold to represent TOS uniforms, because the uniforms appeared gold on most people's TV sets. And it's been canonical that the uniforms were gold since this DS9 scene:

Sisko: "In the old days, Operations Officers wore red, Command Officers wore gold..."

Dax: "And women wore less..." ("Trials and Tribble-ations".)

He had a green dress uniform (i.e, dinner with Khan in Space Seed), but what I've seen most often has been gold in color.

Which begs the question, why didn't the other divisions have dress uni's a different color than standard duty ones?

They did. Science really had a purple dress uni which PHOTOGRAPHED as blue; likewise engineering's orange dress uni that filmed as red.

I think this one should answer this question once and for frelling all...

I loved kirks green wrap around perhaps because of colour tvs in the sixties been new green was a bright colour to use to show how glorious technecolour could be.?

Oh my... has it been that long since I proved my point in which Kirk's uniform color was actually avocado green.

I checked out some of the fan Trek films which go to great lengths to capture, at least, the look of the classic Trek series but fail to capture to right color for Kirk's uniform and the tone of the series.

Film is a different animal than digital camcorders, although the people who are making the costumes continue to be ignorant of the color of command. LOL. It's quite simple if anyone wants to look at Star Trek when the crew wore tunics, surgical tunics, and dress uniforms.

Engineering Dress uniform = RED, Engineering uniform = RED

Science Dress uniform = Teal Blue, Sick bay uniform = Teal Blue, and Science uniform = Teal Blue

But some want many to think Command colors were

Command dress uniform = Green, Command Tunics = Green, but the bridge command uniform was GOLD???

Doesn't make any sense
