Kirk's reputation with computers..

This reminds me of a old joke I once made about how KIrk using human logic to make Data's head explode. He could teach the Borg that resitance isn't futile and they would have self-destructed in "The Best of Both Worlds" before the invasion even begins.

Jason

And he would have seduced the Borg Queen by teaching her this peculiar human custom known as "a kiss." :)

"Resistance is . . . oh my!"

Borg Queen" "Thank you captain KIrk. I though I was going to assimilate you but you have assimilated my heart. I will never forget you."

Jason

Borg Queen" "Thank you captain KIrk. I though I was going to assimilate you but you have assimilated my heart. I will never forget you."

Jason

And they wake up the next morning in bed her body next to the bed and her detached head and spine in bed with Kirk.. Kirk wakes up an freaks out.....

Kirk becomes Celibate

Borg Queen" "Thank you captain KIrk. I though I was going to assimilate you but you have assimilated my heart. I will never forget you."

Jason
KIRK: Cool, see you later. One to beam up..."
BORG QUEEN: Attention all drones. Assimilation is back on!!!!!!!!

Enough examples of Kirk talking computers into destruction.... but could he have done the opposite, too? Could he, for example, have talked Marvin the Paranoid Android out of his eternal depression?

Probably not.......

But given his awesome reputation now I want to see how Kirk would deal with Samaritan or The Machine, but The Machine is a good guy.

He does hit on them far more than on the women of the week... but you can't bring home a computer to show to your parents. At least not until the "laptop" that put D-size batteries to shame was invented...

I absolutely love the idea of Kirk talking Samaritan into destroying itself, with another dazzling display of flawless logic, of course.

If you people remember "The Avengers" was an Old British spy series that was contemporaneous with TOS. John Steed in that series that was somewhat Sci.fiish, once defeated a sophisticated computer by ordering it to destroy itself. In "The Prisoner"
Patrick McGoohan destroys a computer by asking it "Why?". Apparently back then they thought that computers were supposed to answer all the questions that were put to them or cease to function.

In reality, nobody would ever build a computer like that.
Death by O-Level Philosophy!?!

You know, the title could be interpreted a different way:

Captain's log. After our battle with the Klingons, the damaged warp core is losing containment. The only place we can reach in time is the nearby computer ruled planet Mechanista, where they should be able to fix the containment fields in time to save the ship.

Spock: Captain, we are in range of planet Mechanista.

Kirk: Uhura, open an emergency channel.

Uhura: Aye, sir.

KIrk: We have an emergency. Warp containment fields failing. Containment breach immanent. Need repair crew beamed aboard immediately.

Mechanista voice: We will help, repair crews assembling. Which ship is this?

Kirk: This is Captain James T. Kirk of the United Star Ship Enterprise NCC___

Mechanista voice: KIrk, of the Enterprise? Kirk the destroyer of computers? Red alert! Red Alert!

Spock: Captain, the planetary defense system is powering up!

Kirk: Full power to the shields!

Mechanista Voice: Fire! Fire! Death to Kirk!

Yes, the title could be interpreted as asking about Kirk's reputation among computers.

Well he'd not have many friends with the Borg or the Consensus Of Parts

I love that the Kirk v. the Computer eps all pretty much begin with Return of the Archons, which works on so many other levels but has a nice Destructo-Speech sequence built in, with one or two encouraging lines from Spock to add insult to injury.
