Kirk's future promotion to Admiral.

Lyon_Wonder

Captain
Captain
In the prime universe, Kirk was promoted to Admiral after being captain of the Enterprise on his first 5 year mission, which was 2265-2270. In the Abramsverse Kirk will be captain for twice as long with two 5 year missions between 2258 and 2268-69, should Starfleet decide to promote him to Admiral at the same point as in the prime timeline. As with prime Kirk, Abramsverse Kirk will quickly find out he’s better off in the captain’s chair than sitting behind a desk at Starfleet HQ.

All the captains want to be where the action is. Pine Kirk would make a very uneasy Admiral.

I'm curious about the two 5-year missions, though. I hadn't heard that; where did that appear?

^ I think that Lyon Wonder meant that Kirk could have two five year missions on the nuEnterprise instead of just the one that he had on the TOSEnterprise.

The events in the timeline from this point forward are completely unpredictable and will unfold in totally different ways. What happened the last time around is in no way guaranteed or even remotely likely to occur this time around, save for those that would be unaffected by the regional changes (such as the whale probe). And the further in time we go, the greater the discontinuity becomes.

So there's nothing to really argue or contemplate when it comes to Kirk's promotion. If it happens, it happens, and will happen on its own accord. Not one based on whatever happened in another timeline. That timeline doesn't mean jack squat anymore aside, at least in relation to this one.

^ ^ That happens on the last page of the novelization, so it should be first up in the sequel.

That's kind of how I see it too, other than the whale probe, (which even in this timeline should be on its way) and Vger I don't think any of the stories would be set in stone. They may still encounter Khan, but who knows. I kind of doubt that one, they'd have to be in the right place at the right time.

Personally, I am looking forward to seeing the new crew and what they have in store for them. If I want to see Prime ST, I just watch my dvds.

I realize this is not canon, but was it not suggested in novels and/or comics that Kirk (original timeline) did have two 5 year missions, one before the events of TMP and one after?

Same.

If i want to watch prime Trek, ill crack open the movies and show dvds on my days off.

To be honest, i hope they dont recyle old stories at this early stage in the new franchise. Yeah certain things will happen in unison, however others will occur at different stages or not at all.

I have faith this new franchise will go the distance and give us some good, new entertainment.

As for the promotions to Admiral, im guessing it will be the reverse. Quick to captain, but a long old haul to Admiral to prove himself worthy of the rank. Maybe.

Who knows. Well see in a couple of years.

If this movie is any indication, he will make Commodore by age 27 and admiral before 30. Promotions are like lolipops in JJTrek. :)
