Kirk To Gatt-"Where's The Hull Damage?" Gatt-"Major Hull Damage Capt"

Re: Kirk To Gatt-"Where's The Hull Damage?" Gatt-"Major Hull Damage Ca

Gatt is a computer who is interfaced with the ship's computer. He shouldn't be giving cryptic clues about where the damage is or isn't. I'd have serious problems with the software company if they gave me a program that can't answer a question directly!

Gatt may be interfaced with the computer, but he himself is not one. He is an augmented human being - not an android or a robot.

I'm sorry... I couldn't finish reading the thread...

I'm still LMAO from the "Who the Hell Cares" post.

:guffaw:

Joseph Gatt is the actor's name, the character was called Science Officer 0718 in the credits.

Re: Kirk To Gatt-"Where's The Hull Damage?" Gatt-"Major Hull Damage Ca

I can't understand how people go on and on and on worrying about a single line of forgettable dialogue, yet not a single time mention the dangerous, disastrous fuck up by Starfleet to allow a Borg drone aboard the Enterprise. That's a Janeway-level blunder.

If he's augmented, shouldn't he have been facing Khan? Probably a better match up....they really should have explained who or what GATT was....

Why? He's set dressing. A way to make the background look more interesting.

"Major Hull damage" meaning "all over the f'ing place".

Re: Kirk To Gatt-"Where's The Hull Damage?" Gatt-"Major Hull Damage Ca

GATT is also the humanoid AI from the recent Cold Equations book The Body Electric. Maybe not the strangest Trek coincidence, but it's been bugging me since I first saw this thread.

My opinion is that Gatt should not have been in the film, period. Having an android even as a tertiary character runs contrary to the character focus of the Abrams films.

Why? I'm really confused.

Yeah that's one of the most superfluous nitpicks yet.

Fair enough. I just don't see the point if Gatt in the film other than to look and sound neat and remind us that we're watching a sci-fi movie.

Sounds like a good reason to me. :techman:

Even if the movie GATT/Science Officer 0718 isn't an android?

Re: Kirk To Gatt-"Where's The Hull Damage?" Gatt-"Major Hull Damage Ca

Joseph Gatt says he's a human cyborg. My first thought watching the movie was that he was a jacked-up Bynar.

But even if he IS an android, perhaps they picked him up during the "Mudd incident"? AU Norman, reporting for duty.

Re: Kirk To Gatt-"Where's The Hull Damage?" Gatt-"Major Hull Damage Ca

I thought GATT was effing cool. If he did anything, he made me want to find out more info about the dude. It was an interesting new wrinkle of this alternate universe.
