Vice Admiral
Number 2 would have a problem with Trek, I conjure. The harm in not doing these kinds of stories is this: It just wouldn't be Star Trek.
He already has a lengthy file on that one. Rover has been summoned. Orange Alert!

Why should Star Trek be different?why can't Star Trek be different??
Because we see sex everywhere we turn, gets kinda boring after awhile..that is why it should be different, be a refreshing movie, not like the rest of Hollywood with all the sex, gays, drug use, etc....be different..stand out in the crowd...make a statement that says "We choose to be different, not follow the boring ole society".
I hate to break it to you, but STAR TREK was created by a free-loving, hard-living, secular humanist Hollywood liberal. Expecting it to suddenly embrace traditional "family values" is like expecting a Klingon to embrace pacifism.
It ain't going to happen . . . .
OutSTANDING!How about Marlena's outfit?
Total non sequitur.Because we see sex everywhere we turn, gets kinda boring after awhile..that is why it should be different, be a refreshing movie, not like the rest of Hollywood with all the sex, gays, drug use, etc....be different..stand out in the crowd...make a statement that says "We choose to be different, not follow the boring ole society".Why should Star Trek be different?why can't Star Trek be different??
Star Trek should be recorded in black and white, with surrealist backgrounds, cacophonic soundtrack, dubbed in Esperanto and be about a purple gorilla eating mushrooms in a sunny meadow. Is that different enough?

Hey.. I think you might have something there...especially in Esperanto!!

Okay, now you've lost me. Figuring out what constitutes "appropriate" in a PG-rated science fiction film is something that reasonable people can have an interesting discussion about. But when you start railing about "immorality" and "gays," it's obvious this isn't really about marketing or artistic issues, but about trying to impose a conservative social agenda on a franchise that has always worn its progressive, liberal, and, yes, libidinous sensibilities on it sleeve.

Do you keep missing the posts where people mention that sex has been part of Star Trek since the beginning? Star Trek isn't suddenly adding sex to the mix because other movies do it, its been there all along. You are right, sex is not going away but why paste it on the screen for all to see just because other movies are doing it? It is done every day..give us a break, please.
You may want to be careful about making too many guarantees and you'll-sees at this early stage. We all heard given here the same solemn pronouncements, even as late a a month before general release, that this year's Star Trek was going to be an abysmal failure, a flop at the box office and gone from the theaters within two weeks, something which has quite clearly failed to happen. Some of those pronouncements are still the source of much amusement.Because we see sex everywhere we turn, gets kinda boring after awhile..that is why it should be different, be a refreshing movie, not like the rest of Hollywood with all the sex, gays, drug use, etc....be different..stand out in the crowd...make a statement that says "We choose to be different, not follow the boring ole society".

I guarantee if the next movie or two doesn't bring in the $ expected they will have to go back to the drawing board as to what went wrong, they are smart enough to figure it out that people are getting bored of the same ole same ole and they need to change..you'll see.
It's not because other movies are doing it. LOL, I was just watching The Immunity Syndrome again, and Kirk said, "...some... lovely...{Kirk looks at attractive yeoman passing him} planet." See? It's ingrained. You are right, sex is not going away but why paste it on the screen for all to see just because other movies are doing it?
Logical. Flawlessly logical.I'm also beginning to get the idea that boredom with the "same ole same ole" and concern over "what went wrong" with Star Trek are not the fundamental reasons behind your position in this discussion
do I go to the beach or pool? nope, hate the beach and allergic to the chlorine they put in the pool. I don't know about where you live, but around here from I'm told by my nieces and wife, people don't kiss and make out at the pool in their under wear..people act like they are mature enough to keep all that in the bedroom.
