Kirk played as Shatner would act it?

Star Trek: Kirk's Stack of Book with Legs Years. I'd like to see James Spader play Captain Kirk, since he's spent so much time around Shatner. Impossible? Mad?

/I don't know if we have the Right Director for that version of Kirk.
//Or if it should even exist.

In a way, it's more important to me that he looks more like young Shatner (Kirk) than tries to act like Shatner's Kirk.

The fact that Shatner's mannerisms will largely be off-limits makes it even more important there be a physical resemblance. Of course the guy must also be able to act. Eion Bailey, pleeeeaasssee...

We remember those mannerisms more because Shatner is now such a ham

I associated them with Kirk long before I saw Shatner in anything else. Wasn't a big TJ Hooker fan - or Boston Legal for that matter.

We associate those mannerisms with Kirk because they stand out regardless of how often they were used. So the problem remains the same. The issue is not what Shatner actually did, but how people perceive his performance as Kirk, and you can figure that out by watching Zap Branigan on Futurama or John Belushi on SNL. Those performances are funny because everyone agrees generally about "how Kirk acts."

I think we need to see one or two subtle, well-delivered Shatneresque Kirk moments... the portrayal should definitely not become a parody or elicit laughter, but there should be one or two recognizable, appropriately-placed Shatnerisms included, IMHO.
