Kirk and Carol Marcus's relationship in the movie era novels

in the tos novels, mostly shatnerverse, kirk marries another woman and they have kids.

however you can check out kirk and carol in the alternate timeline.

it looks promising.

its too bad there are no novels on the alternate timeline.
I'm planning on starting the Abramsverse novels soon, and one of the things I've been most curious about has been what happens with Carol post STID.

Well the Abramsverse young adult novels aren't going to answer that question, since they are set during the first film.

There were some JJ novels written after the first reboot movie, but tptb shelved them indefinitely.
I haven't read them yet, but there are comics set in the JJ reboot universe. They may feature Carol, I don't know. I haven't gotten around to reading them yet.

James Swallow's Cast No Shadow makes direct reference to Androvar Drake and the final battle at Chal (and the Enterprise-A's destruction there) during that novel's main storyline.
Cool! I hadn't realized when I first read it. I don't remember that at all. There's no mention of it on MB...can you provide a page # for when he is mentioned?
Gotcha covered ;) -- it's about midway down on p. 73:

"That's all there is." Vaughn frowned. "This is a song we've heard before, sir. All intelligence reports we have -- or, rather, had -- were purged from the system by the same hunter-killer virus program that destroyed the data connected to the Gorkon conspiracy. We know Lance Cartwright wasn't alone in what he did. After his arrest, a kill-switch was triggered in attempt to obliterate anything that could incriminate him."

"It could have been one of his coconspirators that pushed the button," Miller agreed. "God knows, Drake had the means and the opportunity after the fact." Admiral Androvar Drake, a man who had briefly ascended to a role as Chief of Staff at Starfleet following the Gorkon assassination, had later been revealed to be a silent partner in Cartwright's cabal of pro-conflict agitators. Drake's duplicity was exposed, but at the cost of his own life and the loss of the Enterprise-A over the planet Chal.
Interesting. So does this mean The Ashes of Eden could be considered compatible with the Litverse continuity? Or is there something else in it that still keeps it incompatible like the rest of the Shatnerverse?

The Ashes of Eden, given its setting, is about the only Shatnerverse novel that is compatible with the rest of the novelverse. I had forgotten that it was referenced in Cast No Shadow.

That being said, there's no reason a later novel can't contradict the events of AoE. Even recent novels have either explicitly or implicitly contradicted ones that are only a few years old.

I've always been disapointed more wasn't done with Carol Marcus, either in the books or on screen. I was thrilled when she popped up in Vanguard.

And she popped up in the Genesis Wave novels.
During the 5YM era, she also appeared in the Star Trek 25th Anniversary PC game from Interplay, having inadvertently developed a virus lethal to Vulcanoid lifeforms, and her research station under attack from Romulans during the game's storyline.

^Hmm. The 25th Anniversary game was another one that I own but never managed to finish, even with cheat notes (I was just talking about The Kobayashi Alternative in another thread). I could use the cheat notes to help me crack the missions, but the space battle scenes in between were my bane. I don't remember the Carol Marcus part. I do remember that the game was in the TOS timeframe, so it would've been a prequel to TWOK.

It would've been the third mission, if that helps; does Vulcan laughing gas sound familiar?

I meant comics, I don't know why I wrote novels. That's what I get for posting while I'm watching TV.:brickwall:
This thread has reminded me that I still need to read Inception. I've had it sitting in my too read bookcase since it came out, but never actually gotten around to reading it.

I've started re-reading Ashes of Eden, and in the beginning Kirk is in a relationship with Carol. They break up pretty quickly, but it's well written and surprisingly consistent with Shadows of the Sun after all. I had forgotten all about this even though I'd read it before.
