Kira Was Never Ever In Love with Odo

For those saying that Miles and Kira would have been a better pair than Miles and Keiko because you didn't like Keiko or that the chemistry was better with the Chief and the Major: How do you justify that in the story line? A man leaving his family to be with his superior officer?

I think the only way to make it work without making O'Brien seem like a complete dog that abandoned his family (something that would have been way out of character for him) would have been to kill Keiko off.

Agreed it's a bad idea. DS9 was not supposed to be a soap opera anyway.

I never totally bought this relationship because I didn't get the same vibes/chemistry on Kira's end that I got on Odo's. I never thought it was a calculating thing, though. My sense was that she had a deep and genuine affection for him and realized he would always be good to her, so she gave it a shot in the hopes she might fall for him eventually.

I disagree. She only started the relationship after she had a “moment of pure clarity,” so by the time they kissed, she had already fallen for him.

To me Odo and Kira never had the romantic spark which Riker and Troi had on TNG. They started as lovers, became friends while secretly harboring tender feelings for each other. It helped that Frakes and Sirtis played it that way even if it wasn't in the script. I never saw anything like that with Odo and Kira because the actors felt they should have stayed platonic friends.

There wasn’t the same kind of spark, but there was definitely a spark. It’s one of my favorite relationships in ST.

I think she loved him. But I never fully bought into them having a full on physical/sexual relationship. I agree with the OP that the kiss on the Promenade did seem forced and cringey and a lot of the schmoopiness between them didn't work either.

But I don't think she would've entered into a relationship with him with an ulterior motive either. I think she loved him in a different way than he loved her and she basically shrugged and said "You know what, he's a good man, and Bareil's not walking through that door, so why the hell not"

Did you not see A Simple Investigation? Odo was a full-on Changeling, and the sex was hot hot hot. And then in Chimera when Odo got all sparkly and showered over Kira...? Hot.
What was cringey was when the female Changeling is sitting on the bed and says to Odo, “so that is how solids share intimacy?” (or words to that effect) and Odo sort of nods. And you realize, ew, they just had sex. Sort of.

The golden shower seemed more natural and like the sort of thing they would be doing, given Odo’s abilities. That actually made a lot of sense. The PDA is what mostly seemed out of place, for both characters.

sorry, I couldn't resist

That whole episode was cringeworthy and totally didn't fit either of their characters. I thought the actors had good chemistry, so I was ok with the relationship, but the writing, imho, let them down. Mostly it still worked, because they both acted their asses off. I don't quite remember the latest seasons, though, so it'll be interesting when I get there on my rewatch.

Entering a relationship with an ulterior motive is about as far from Kira's characterization as you can get...

Kira had a type, the kind of men she was attracted to from her point of view were human looking. In "The Maquis, pt 1" and the "Resurrection" she didn't seem fond in being affectionate around aliens who were unusual looking. Odo is unusual looking, but there was a long documented past between them - and they're friends, but I never saw Kira was attracted to Odo??? . I agree with Armus, I never saw the chemistry between Kira and Odo like I did with Sisko and Jennifer (or Mirror Jennifer), O'Brien and Keiko, even Quark and Grilka had more chemistry than what was between those two's forced companionship. It definitely would never be as deep of the feelings Kira had for Bareil. The Odo chemistry just wasn't there.

I don’t think that Odo is that unusual looking. He doesn’t have a transparent skull, he doesn’t have big ears, and we know that he eventually gets the hang of doing faces (Children of Time).

Besides, when you love someone, they become beautiful to you.

I wasn't happy with it....it seems cliched and soap operaish

BUTTT....I was happy with the resolution. That wasn't cliched. It wasn't weepy and ill always this and maybe visit that. It was a mature love. The kind when really good friends who truly understand each other...i guesssss....fall for each other and then part.

Edit: And by the way Kira/Visitor is how a TRULY empowered female acts on Trek....as opposed to the weepfest of DISCO and the quivering lip of PICARD.*

*I like how its done but man they are dancing on a razors edge.
