Kira Was Never Ever In Love with Odo

Populations often rebound quickly after traumatic experiences. People somehow get unbroken. Not that Kira was going to be doing any species rebuilding with Sheriff Odo, but still..

It may have not seemed right for Kira's character to fall in love with Odo, but your suggestion is *way* more out of character. Kira is a strong woman, she doesn't use romance for personal gain or duty.

And besides, we know Kira's attracted to powerful men with unexciting personalities. Nobody was more powerful than Odo.

In real life, Kira and Bashir's actors were doing it. It doesn't help that in acting, one has to make a lie look real without bringing in all sorts of neat earth emotions like jealousy. And potentially neat earth diseases like herpes simplex too.

Nana Visitor had it right. Not every character has to be in a relationship (aka "shipped", ugh) and paternal or familial relationships are A-OK too. And not all families are based on DNA but other things. She nailed Kira from the start so it's safe to say she knew how Kira would be. Scriptwriters are a rare breed but actors are what take the role in a new dimension.

Keiko and Miles were closest to the average-marriage trope. They had issues and worked through them in the ways they saw best. 80s/90s Trek really did try to cover multiple situations of single parents, married couples, couples trying to make something work even if they fall apart... it's not a replacement for actual therapy, but it's fun to watch. Usually. Or rarely, I prefer the sci-fi and conflict aspects over what is already so commonplace for and with no shortage of in so many other genres. But marriage is a form of conflict, of which some equate to war... let me think about this...
Through out the series Kira appeared very shallow or had a particular taste in what she found attractive in a significant other. There were scenes with Dax where Kira was shocked at the kind of men she was attracted to and didn't hold back on her opinion. Kira was attracted to a man of faith, and had beliefs which were identical to her own, the writers putting her with Odo never felt right to me and it showed.

I never thought about that. If she had a problem with Captain Boday's transparent skull you'd think she'd have problem with Odo's natural liquid state.

Exactly, Armus, now I wouldn't have minded if there was a natural progression where she started agreeing with Dax on her bizarre type of men but just going along with Odo's POV of the affair instead of seeing through her eyes felt 1 dimensional to me. Kira never had her point of view explored for me to accept the relationship, she simply went along with it because the writer's fulfilled their fantasies through Odo starting with "Heart of Stone".

On the flip side it gave her 12 hours each day ( or whatever # of hours)where Odo was out of her hair:lol:
But looking at someone's brain all of the time, Yeech. I agreed with her in that

I suppose Kira had her own personal bucket of goo to take mud baths in too.

They showed Kira had a more conservative view of religious issues than Bareil early on. She forgave him and indicated that she was supporting him for Kai anyway.

Other than Captain Boday, when did Nerys ever talk about being repulsed by someone's physical appearance? She expressed disgust about Ferengi, ("greedy, misogynistic, untrustworthy little trolls") or Dukat, ("an opportunistic, power hungry dictator") but I don't recall any other times she complained about someone being unattractive.

That said, how does having a physical attraction to certain types equal shallow?

Kira was attracted to a man of faith, and had beliefs which were identical to her own
Please cite sources. Two men in a row that happen to be religious hardly indicates a pattern. Nerys also felt attraction (of varying degrees) to Odo, Tom Riker, Bashir, and Miles, so I find this claim to be dubious.

Why does everyone call female characters shallow when they actually ask physical attractiveness of their partners when they know they'd never accept a relationship between a man and a physically unattractive woman?

Anyway the difference between Odo and Boday is that she knew him really well as a person before the romantic option was introduced.

I tend to also think Kira had physical attraction for Dukat, just he was too awful a person to consider that way. Kira is attracted to powerful men, she's only willing to romantically consider men who are good people.

Dukat never had a chance with Kira. If he was ever trying to seduce her he failed miserably. He didn't know when to shut his mouth. Kira had no patience for men who liked the sound of their voice too much.

I don't think Kira had any physical attraction for Dukat. Cardassians were mildly repulsive to her, and she could overcome it in order to work with them when necessary. But attraction was just not happening.

Two men in varied forms of perceived positions of power does not equal Kira being automatically attracted to "powerful men".

We'll have to disagree and the mirrorverse might be evidence if it's seen as a snippet of the same character but different upbringing. At the end of the day, Kira would do what is necessary to protect Bajor.

Progress s1x15 where she throws a man off the moon as an example where her duty to Bajor overrides her inner qualms.

And besides, we know Kira's attracted to powerful men with unexciting personalities.

Thomas Riker would be the exception here.

Yes, however one great date does not make a match. Besides, Tom needed the date to succeed so Kira would let him on the Defiant, so it wasn't a real date.

Not from his perspective, perhaps, but from hers it was (*), and isn't that the part that counts (as this is in the context of a discussion on her taste in men)?

(*) that is, until he phasered her, she has always been a bit particular about such things.

In the documentary, Visitor said she didn’t buy that Odo had a long lasting crush on Kira that Kira was clueless about, until she discovered that Siddig had one on her, and then she had to reevaluate.
Kira/Odo is one of my favorite pairings. And I think Kira-Miles-Keiko would have made a great threesome. That would have taken Star Trek to where no show had gone before.

About the only pairing I wanted to see develop on that show would have been Alexander/Lwaxana Troi, if for nothing else but to torment Worf into perpetuity while mirroring his father's own May/December romance with Curzon.

It would have also given Picard reason to cameo to give away the bride. The first Captains' meeting was not particularly satisfying.

For those saying that Miles and Kira would have been a better pair than Miles and Keiko because you didn't like Keiko or that the chemistry was better with the Chief and the Major: How do you justify that in the story line? A man leaving his family to be with his superior officer?

I think the only way to make it work without making O'Brien seem like a complete dog that abandoned his family (something that would have been way out of character for him) would have been to kill Keiko off.
