Kira/Kirk

Deliberate spelling/nameplay? Or accident? Opinions, knowledge?
Coincidence. I doubt that TOS was at the forefront of Berman or Piller's minds when they were coming up with DS9.

She is a little Kirkish, isn't she? Woman of action, always needing to do something. Leans to violence as default, short-term solution.
It sounds like you're thinking of the pop culture cliche of Kirk rather than what Kirk was actually like on TOS. He didn't use violence as a first resort unless he was being attacked himself, and sometimes not even then. He wasn't really the horndog that people make him out to be, either.

Kira spends most of the series quite happy at her work station doing her thing. Oh, she's still strong headed and given to issuing occasional threats of violence but she's settled enough at her post.

It's at the start she's this frantic headbanger trying to cool down and normalise after life as a guerilla. I imagine that type is not uncommon in post-conflict societies. So it's not Kirk they had in their heads but a kind uber-patriot, hot-under-the-collar guerilla at least sofar as Kira starts of as in the pilot. It's not long before Kira sobers up and settles down sd the series gets underway.

I didn't find it to be so foolish a question. Every STAR TREK series just HAS to have the "outsider" alien to comment on the Human Condition in a way that NO Human could possibly EVER get away with ... and hope to live! They've all got a local studd. They've all got female officers in catsuits. I mean ... STAR TREK is pretty self-derivative, as it is. Not saying that's a bad thing at all, it's certainly a formula that works. But you know what, if they ever want to make Kirk a female - and this is not a new concept, by ANY stretch of the imagination - then I'm ready for STAR TREK: The SheBoot. Bring it, CBS ...

STAR TREK: The SheBoot
No...just no. It would be a ReBoot, calling it anything else is ridiculous. I remember nothing about a BSG "she"boot.

I read in a writers guide that the characters sex should be the last thing you decide upon. Create a good, solid, real character, the qualities that make that true in a man work for a woman as well (and vice versa). Just look at Ripley from Alien.

The OP does not mention the biggest similarity of all between Kirk and Kira: both actors (Shatner and Visitor) are incapable of acting emotional without simultaneously appearing extremely unconvincing and hammy.

whoa maybe it was all planned after all...what's that he's saying at 2:49?
