Spoilers Killjoys - Season 3

And from what Klhylen said about removing the family name from the records, does that mean before the Quad had The Nine they had The Ten?

Sounds that way. Although I don't think it was the Quad yet, just Qresh -- Khlyen was talking to young Aneela about colonizing the moons as something to be done in the future.

So Dutch is some kind of Hullen-made clone of Aneela? Her memory of her child self magically made flesh?

I think the answer lies within the question ;)
The Hullen weren't kidding when they said Aneela has a knack for dealing with the green.

How the hell does that work?

We saw Aneela apparently pull Dutch from her memories through the green, with Dutch herself not having the child Aneela's memories. So Hullen-made clone seems the answer. But she also pulled a peach out of there. Was that a Hullen-Peach then?

This is actually a really relevant question, because if Dutch is Hullen, she obviously literally came from Aneela's pool, and if that pool is poisoned to kill Aneela and her Hullen buddies, would that also kill Dutch?

I didn't expect Turin to take such a dark turn.

I didn't expect him to be that stupid too. He knew they were needed and his plan was to imprison and interrogate them into helping?

We're only 3 episodes away from the end of the season so "The Lady" that was mentioned will probably get a few more mentions, a tease in the finale, and then be the villain in Season 4.

Also, loved seeing the first meeting between Dutch and Johnny, as well as Lucy and Johnny :D

Maybe she's not Hullen enough for it kill her? Afterall if she had enough hullen (even if just pool residue) then Dutch would be able to fly those hullen fighters - plus she doesn't bleed green or instantly heal after getting the crap beaten out of her.

"Ship?"
"yes theif"?

I wonder if all ship computers in the Quad have personalities like Lucy or whether she's just special?

That's just it, though. That isn't really an answer. It explains the what, but not the how. We've never been given any indication that the Hullen is capable of that. And you're right that how it was done would affect a lot of things about Dutch.

Yalena/Dutch may have been created by the plasma somehow, but she doesn't have it inside her like the Hullen do. That's been made pretty clear by now, considering that she's never rapidly healed from an injury, couldn't fly the Hullen ships, etc. Aneela said she created Yalena by "pulling out" the memory of who she'd been before she was infected with Hullen plasma. Dutch is the person she would've been if she'd remained pure human. So it stands to reason that Dutch has no plasma within her -- which is why the idea of her being created by the plasma is so paradoxical. The most logical explanation is that it cloned her from Aneela's cells, but the fact that the child was apparently "born" at age 8 is hard to reconcile with that.

They weren't in the Quad yet. They were on the planet of which Yalena was the queen -- I think they called it Khefren or something like that -- and Lucy belonged to the royal house there, according to the dialogue.

Cloning also doesn't explain the peach, because there was no peach DNA there.

Ok, so that was a different planet outside The Quad then, I was trying to figure out if it was a planet, or just a region of one of the Quad planets or moons.

That was the impression I got.
I'm not quite sure what to make of Dutch's origin, like @Christopher said, apparently she was made by The Green, but isn't Hullen. So did it just somehow spontaneously turn into all of her blood, organs, skin, ect.? It was interesting getting to see it, and finally getting answers, even if they didn't entirely make sense.
The flashbacks were good though, it was interesting getting to see Aneela as a child, and the first meetings of Dutch, Johnny, and Lucy were really good.
The stuff was Turin and Dav was good, I liked Dav stepping up as the new leader. I was surprised by what Turin did, but I don't think it was totally out of character.
I didn't realize there were that many Cleansed, I thought Dac and Fancy were pretty much it.

Though at the same time Khylen mentioned both Arken and Q'resh including the scene from the first time scenes after Dutch accessed the brain engrams.

Yes, Khlyen was native to Qresh, although Dutch didn't know that until now. And he and Aneela found the plasma on Arkyn, as we learned last season. Presumably Aneela was imprisoned on Arkyn. But Aneela escaped and took young Yalena to another star system in the the J Cluster, which is where Khlyen found her. That's why Dutch believed she wasn't native to the Quad. Apparently the Yardeen family, which Khlyen led her to think she belonged to, owned a whole moon on the edge of the J. The Quad is also on the edge of the J, but its moons are owned by the Nine. Her career as an assassin for Khlyen took place elsewhere in the J, and apparently she came to the Quad with Johnny after she murdered the Prince on her wedding night and fled in Lucy. That's why she was surprised in season 1 when Khlyen showed up in the Quad. She thought she'd escaped him by going there. Now I wonder if he somehow arranged for her to think that so that she would go there.

So now Aneela has her own 2 sidekicks, just like Dutch. It's a fair fight ;)

On the fight front, the Aneela vs The Lady is shaping up to be a much bigger conflict, and with Aneela becoming a more sympathetic character I wonder if we're heading to an unlikely alliance, or will Dutch take over Aneela's cause when she dies (if Zeph figures out how to somehow protect her from not dying as well :techman:).

If I understood correctly the Hullen are all separate hives, but they've been connecting Aneela to all of them (for some nefarious purpose) by swapping out the green, and The Lady is probably also connected to all of them, but lost in "the cloud" somewhere without a body. There's a new suspicious body in Kendry's belly...

Guess it comes down who Aneela hates more - Dutch or The Lady?

Though there's one piece of the puzzle missing (or I've missed it).

Why Aneela's hatred for Dutch?

Because Dutch was responsible for what happen to Khlyen or is there more (though Aneela commented about hating her for "years")

Aneela basically resented Dutch for "stealing" her father away from her.

And she probably also resents Dutch for being free of the Hullen. She created Yalena/Dutch to be the person she would've been without the Green, out of nostalgia for what she lost, but it's understandable that she might grow to resent Dutch for being the one who gets to live that life of freedom.

^^
She doesn't remember creating Dutch though, because Khlyen removed those memories from her.

But the subconscious resentment could remain. Emotional memory is stored in a different part of the brain from episodic memory, so she could still hate Dutch without remembering the reason for that hate.

So are Aneela and Dutch going to have to team up to defeat the Lady?

Dav does seem to make a good commander.

Interesting that we don't know whether or not this has been renewed for a 4th season yet. The way this last episode or two went, we could be heading for a series finale if they wanted.

Looking at the wiki entries for both Killjoys and Dark Matter, the renewals were announced in September. Give we're running pretty much the same schedules as last year, the go/no go for Season 4 for both series will come after they've finished over the next couple of weeks (which would be September).

Fingers crossed for both.

Googling it a bit, the ratings and viewership have been on par with last season's, which is good in this era of continually dwindling ratings. The show is also cheap to make, so I think there's a good chance of it getting renewed.

Also, as Hannah John-Kamen is set to appear in three big movies next year, so that's some entirely free publicity included for the show next year, it would be silly to cancel it now, right? :techman:
