Killjoys/Dark Matter renewed for third seasons

Glad to hear it.

I confess I was afraid that tomorrow night's KILLJOYS finale might end with a cliffhanger that would be left unresolved . ...

Oh, that's a relief. I really like the worldbuilding and story arc they've been developing on Killjoys, and it would've been a shame to see that cut short. As for Dark Matter, I find it less interesting conceptually (and they really ought to hire a female writer or two), but it has several cast members I like watching.

Yay! :)
Yeah, killjoys has really been killin' it lately! Hannah can be a truly mezmerizing actor.

Good to hear. :techman: I haven't gotten into Dark Matter, but I do like what they've done with the current season of Killjoys.

Same here, just never got into the Killjoys but I like Dark Matter. Glad they are both renewed through.
It's good in the sense that it's more sci-fi on the SyFy channel. More sci-fi is always better than less. Whether or not it's sci-fi I'll actually sit through is another conversation...

Yeah, I hear ya. I watch 'em but consider both to be kind of filler material. As long as they aren't blocking other material getting made though no harm in continuing them and good news for the fans.

I haven't checked out DARK MATTER yet, but I'm definitely hooked on KILLJOYS.

Now if we can just get rid of that horrible new credits sequence . . . :)

I am watching Killjoys right now. Dark Matter yesterday. I'm really enjoying both and long may they continue.

Do check out Dark Matter if you like a consistent story with a plan behind it (not like the Cylon "plan", mind), in that respect it's probably similar to Killjoys. DM picks up a bit slowly but the end of S1 and the entire S2 (so far, up to the 9th episode) are great.

There is far less emphasis on romantic relationships in Dark Matter (at least in S2), but I don't view that as a bad thing.

Very happy with the renewals, both teams get to keep their jobs and it's great that those stories aren't cut short. I'm particularly happy that Mallozzi's five-year plan for Dark Matter gets a continuation, at least up to its 3rd year.

I'm also surprised because both shows lost like a third of their viewership in live ratings, compared to their first year. Other kinds of watching must have had an impact in that decision. Both shows seem to be well liked by many critics as well, which probably doesn't hurt.

I don't know if I'd describe Dark Matter that way. It's more like a bunch of unrelated story arcs going in parallel, though I guess there's more of a larger series arc emerging this season. Killjoys has always felt to me like it was building to something bigger and had a unifying thread behind it all from the getgo, but DM has taken longer to give the impression that it was really going anywhere.

It's fine if they don't want to focus on romance, but then I wish they wouldn't replace it with detached, casual hookups between people who are cold and awkward and weird about it after the fact. The Killjoys characters are also pretty casual about their sex lives, but in a much more emotionally mature and comfortable way.

Funny how people see the same things differently. I think you are talking about the encounter between Four and Nyx and I don't think they were cold and awkward about having sex. They had been sparring a lot and were attracted to each other with all the physical stuff. They (as men and women often do) misunderstood each other. She brought up keeping their relationship just between themselves for awhile and he said something about that's good, I'm not sure it will ever happen again anyway, probably trying not to pressure her but she heard it as meaning he wasn't that impressed with the sex or something and she got pissed. Not cold or weird at all, just a misunderstanding. As for Killjoys, the whole threesome relationship between Dutch and the brothers seems strange to me. Supposedly a brother/sister relationship between Johnny and Dutch, she gets jealous of Pawter. She has a sexual relationship with the other brother, D'avin, and then dumps him after he beats the crap out of her although she knows he wasn't in control and it wasn't really his fault. Then all of a sudden she's all over the scarback Alvis instead. That seems cold and weird/unexpected to me.
I like both shows and I'm so glad to see decent space shows again. These shows are different from each and I like that.

That and the very similar thing in the first season between Two and Three -- two people have a casual hookup, then afterward they insist it means nothing and they shouldn't see it as more than that, but they get kinda weird with each other about it anyway, and it's more like denial than actual casualness. Compounded by the half-hearted triangle/competition thing they were going for with One, Two, and Three. It all just feels very cold and uncomfortable and isn't fun at all.

Not all jealousy is sexual. Jealousy means the fear of someone taking away something you have. Dutch values her friendship and partnership with Johnny, she feels it's the one thing that keeps her dark side in check, and she feared that his relationship with Pawter would endanger that.

She has a sexual relationship with the other brother, D'avin, and then dumps him after he beats the crap out of her although she knows he wasn't in control and it wasn't really his fault.

Nobody can dismiss a traumatic thing like that as casually as you suggest, no matter their objective knowledge. And if anything, D'Avin would more likely be the one who'd be afraid to be reminded of what he did and would thus prefer to keep his distance. It wasn't a one-sided thing -- D'Avin was pursuing Pree's bartender at around the same time that Dutch was getting closer to Alvis.
