Khaun from Original Series

:guffaw: Oh my god, you guys are just priceless.

Khan was one of the big bads imo back in the Original Series, and one villain that no one would ever forget :techman:.

I dunno; he's fine and all, but I don't think he compares to Next Generation's signature antagonist of Qu.

Once upon a time, I remember hearing dribs and drabs of information/misinformation about the upcoming movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khaun, and one account spoke of how Genghis Khaun from The Savage Curtain was going to be in it...

Khan's rep seems to come mostly from Star Trek II. There he blasted the Enterprise, where it showed exterior damage for the first time ever, murdered scientists, made Kirk scream his name, was indirectly responsible for Spock's death and set the next two films into motion. And provided the "black hat villain" template for the majority of the remaining films. Before that, I really felt it was just a guy Kirk beat with a paper towel tube in engineering. Smart, very well realized (Montalban was great), but not "Kirk's greatest nemesis!" I'd love to see Khan and Gary Mitchell in a fight at the top of their prowess. Khan would be ash. Or have Khan beat up a Gorn. YMMV

I've always though "Khaun"'s rep as a badass was less about him and more about Kirk being a nimrod. The only reason Khan's a threat in "Space Seed" is because Kirk foolishly lets him read the ship's tech manuals, and in TWOK he stupidly fails to follow basic regulations. Khan was never a big threat, Kirk was just stupid.

Ha, yeah. Kirk knows Khan comes from a suspicious and murky background, yet he just happily gives Khan access to the tech manuals - after Khan refuses to answer even the most basic questions. Then he justifies it to Spock on the bridge lamely, and Spock just lets it slide. Nobody is particularly smart in this episode.
