I think the way that scene happens is just fine by me. I actually like that even with his superior self, he couldn't live to see his final defeat by Kirk and Spock. They didn't need that shot, in the same way they didn't need Shinzon to wake up and see Data blow up the Scimitar.
No, I think it's fine as it is. I did get a chuckle out of the coke can scream though.
Perhaps it's a generational thing. I saw the film in theaters and didn't think anything was missing. If you really need something spelled out for you that much, then maybe you should watch Insurrection instead of Khan.

I saw it in the theater too, but I was only six years old at the time.
I'd just like to see Khan's facial expression as realization set in...he wouldn't have to say anything.

I just don't think that him seeing Kirk warp away just before Genesis goes off would be any more satisfying than him dying thinking he's won.

My thoughts exactly. With Space Seed, I don't really look at Khan as some insane coward who has no redeeming qualities. He just went through a vicious time where he was constantly losing everything and no one came to help. His satisfaction of knowing Kirk dies is probably the only good thing he ever felt in 15 years.

TWOK doesn't need the shot because Khan died going for it, and you don't need to spit in his face with a token 'foiled again' bit from a cartoon.
I think Khan is seriously weakened in act III by a little too much mugging during the chase to Mutara anyway, and including yet another overreaction at the end would have been lowest common denominator thinking, which you've already got too much of elsewhere.
For that kind of payoff, you already have the 'here it comes' and the shields dropping and Khan's face going all hammy ... repeating it at the end would be like including a second 'dog farting' scene in Clint Eastwood's SUDDEN IMPACT, or Data -- after the 'ohshit' line -- muttering 'women drivers' after the saucer augers in during GENERATIONS. Piss in the audience's mouth, just don't pinch their noses shut at the same time.
By way of contrast, they went back and added a shot to the climax of TUC, with a three-frame cut of a dummy of Chang getting detonated during the torpedo assault that toasts the BOP. Production felt that was needed to tell the audience 'we got him' and for a film that operates largely on that kind of straightforward plotting, it does follow you need to dot Is and cross Ts in this fashion.

I had something serious to post, but Trevanian's response said it all.
The internet has proven its worth to me time and again ... all I need to do is mention Dirty Harry's farting dog to trump most other responses. (And that doesn't even get into how the dog changes sex from shot to shot, something I had to have pointed out to me on my 10th or 12th viewing.)
