No Khan, no way, no how! Mr. Orci, you guys have a tremendous opportunity to give us brand new adventures for the original crew. Don't take the easy way out, be CREATIVE, let your mind wander and find a new path. You had mentioned in a previous interview about how the classic Trek was allegorical with it's stories reflecting current events. Do the same here: maybe something that could be related to global warming, immigrants being forced out, prejudice, addiction, natural disasters, there's tons of ideas. Just pick up a newspaper and set the story in the future on a different planet.

Who would you cast as Khan? Ricardo Montalban was absolutely wonderful as Khan, and that should be the end of it. A new time-line calls for new villains and new plots, not rehashing old stuff.

I voted no even though I'm a lot closer to "maybe" which there was no option for. If they do Khan, I won't be upset, but it's not my preference.

If they end up using him, I hope they can give us something fresh. Like no references to dialog in Wrath of Khan.

If I had to write a Khan movie, I'd make the very beginning of the movie take place on Earth at the end of the eugenics wars. Or at least that would be put in there somewhere. With the way the Bad Robot team likes to tell things out of order, I wouldn't be surprised if a Khan movie went that route.

Expect another time travel story. nuKirk goes back in time to fight nuKhan on his turf. Single handedly bringing peace and prosperity to Earth!

I voted no. Kahn does not need to be redone. We have a whole new timeline, free of the TOS and TNG canon restrictions. So create some of these new exciting stories that could not be done due to that pesky canon issue.

They should cover some of Kirk's history with Gary Mitchell. We only saw him for a few minutes in the pilot episode. After that, we see what he became. As for Pine's desire for a love interest, maybe it should be Dr. Marcus. I got the impression from re-watching the pilot last night, that she was the lab tech Kirk almost married. As for the villain, maybe they should choose a different enemy. For example, the Tholians or the Gorn.

So Khan shouldn't be redone, but every other TOS series and movie character should?

No Khan.... yet. Unless it's a brief shot of the Botany Bay floating through space or being sold as salvage to the Klingons by Harry Mudd after the credits have rolled.

I voted yes. Sure, why not. If they bring Kirk & Spock back, and they're going back to basics, and you want a splashy summer movie about the gang beating up on some villain, well... the list of specific characters to bring back besides Khan isn't tremendously long (the Klingons for sure, but not necessarily Kor, Kang or Koloth, just as our Romulan bad guy was neither anonymous Romulan commander).

Kahn has been explored in TOS and TWOK. The other Characters are seen briefly. We're given a little back story and that's it. It is kind of like the Kirk's Kobayashi Maru test.
Wait, NM. While I laughed during that scene, I would have preferred it to be taken more seriously.

I voted no. Trek movies have been trying to recapture the best of TWOK, to varying degrees of failure, for decades now. Let's put it to bed and move on.

I know I've said it before, but I think a rogue Starfleet officer would work much better, it was something of a staple in TOS, but with the exception of a few minor bad admirals, we haven't seen it in the movies. Maybe someone who holds some resentment at Kirk's quick promotion and reputation (a Benedict Arnold type, perhaps?)

Garth would be way better than Khan.

The details of why he went crazy, what crimes he committed, who stopped him and how could make for a very good story.

I imagine he has contact with some unknown which gives him the ability to shape-shift, contact with the Outer Barrier perhaps... Something. In addition to shape-shifting another side effect become apparent; he's now mad with power and will kill everyone if not stopped. No easy task, him being a shape-shifter and all. :)

Our Hero's mission becomes one of capturing him, and Starfleet cannot stress it enough: alive!

Kirk succeeds and thereby learns the importance of mercy.

I vote that Garth goes AWOL too. Lets see them have to hunt him down maybe to an Orion slave hub or something where they can get a few alien cameos in - yay Marta. Maybe he could kidnap a Vulcan delegation containing Sarek, T'Pau, T'Pring and an environmental scientist, Carol Marcus, among others.

I sure hope they can work in, 'But he's my lover and I have to kill him...'

Khan is the only one the general public would recognize so why wouldn't he be the logical choice? Ask around at the mall, and you won't get a blip of recognition for Gary Mitchell, Carol Marcus or even Harcourt Fenton Mudd.

Any of them could be a good story. So could Lord Garth or a rogue Starfleet officer or a giant space ameoba on a rampage. But why choose those when you can choose the one character who has name recognition - Khan - and do that kickass story that competent writers should be able to create out of any number of TOS elements?

Or, let's flip it on its head: you want an original story not derived from TOS? What story would that be?

I dunno, the first movie had Nero, a total unknown, and it did ok. To say that Khan is of utmost importance is just placing too much importance on TWOK, and wouldn't bode well for the last movie if they have to rely on such things.

^They realize how radically different new Khan would have to be in order to work. Some sort of confusion about "erasing" old Khan, and another painful reminder that the old rules will not be obeyed.
