Khan and the Eugenics War

I'm still glad they went the route they did.

(And I'll always have issues with something being canon but not in continuity. I just don't see the logic in that. )

Because the story is more important than the continuity..I never felt TMP was in continuity with TOS but I can appreciate stories told.

Something I wish could be explained, but I know can’t and won’t be: why it is that sometimes timeline alteration leads to a changed timeline (“Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow”), but sometimes it creates a separate parallel timeline coexisting with the first one (Star Trek ‘09).
Marketing. The creators of ST09 didn't want long-time fans to think the original timeline had been erased.

I wonder if it's possible that the same thing happened here?
It comes down to real world market tactics. If Trek's showrunners think they can make a hit movie/tv show based on the multiverse concept (and we know Disney is exploring that in Marvel and DC is using that, although so far they've refrained from bringing in the Legends continuity for Star Wars multiverse action), then time travel will make parallel timelines. If they feel this won't sell, they'll focus on the Prime Timeline (even Kelvin might not come back).

I have a feeling in the future they might go all multiverse and maybe have a movie starring the most popular characters/actors across the Trek franchise, basically a Temporal War movie and at the end of it the entire timeline will probably shifted forward (like the Eugenics Wars were here) so Trek doesn't have to worry about what happens if they keep airing past 2063.

A Temporal War MOVIE? I am so down with that.
It would be an excuse for "Trek's greatest hits" kind of thing. Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Jeri Ryan, Anson Mount, Oded Fehr and Sonequa-Martin Green representing the 32nd century, and maybe Brent Spiner if he's still up for it.

Post proof or retract.
According to a 2023 government report called "Many People Ain't As Stoopid As You Think," the vast majority of people actually believe that the various television shows in the venerable Star Trek franchise actually isn't real, but the imaginary products of various writers and producers. This latest finding comes on the heels of the recent revelation that there may actually be some kind of meat in the long-selling Spam food product after all....
:shifty:

TNG moved World War 3 to the 21st century with no in-universe explanation. TOS still exists.

Worse than that: TNG explicitly contradicted TOS. From the Omega Glory:

SPOCK: Kohms? Communists? The parallel is almost too close, Captain. It would mean they fought the war your Earth avoided, and in this case, the Asiatics won and took over this planet.

I thought it was cool that TOS envisioned a future where nuclear war was avoided, unlike most other sci-fi series. I remember being very annoyed by this when TNG premiered.

Yes, Spock mentioned World War III in an episode, but in Space Seed he also says that the Eugenics Wars were the last "so-called World War."

I think we can go back to the earlier pages of this thread when it was proposed that the Eugenics Wars and World War III are lumped together as a series of conflicts that kind of bled into one another.

Spock was talking about a war between the US and the Soviet Union. Earth DID avoid that war. World War III was the Eugenics Wars. Much different beastie.

A war between the USSR and the US would have been an all out nuclear war. That's what Spock was talking about that Earth had avoided. That's why the Yangs and Kohms are in a stone age civilization. TNG made it so there had been a nuclear war, as well as the Eugenics War.
