Actually, I think he proably just liked the new "Superman" movie and wanted to have the actor come and play a character that is really different from "Superman." I don't think he was trying to get back at John Peters or studio for not doing his version fo Superman. He already got his revenge for that by talking about it in "A Evening With Kevin Smith."
