Kevin Smith-Stop complaining and start creating again!

Yeah, that's true. I still find their stories entertaining though... to the point where I listen to their spinoff podcast.

Jersey Girl came on Comedy Central last night, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I can't believe that people hate it so much.

I think Smith was right when he said that Jersey Girl was still reeling off the Gigli/Ben Affleck & Jennifer Lopez stigma.

Of course it was. And you know what, Gigli wasn't that bad, either. I'm not saying it was good. It was not a very good movie. But as bad as people made it out to be? No.

Absolutely agree. I like it a lot. It's particularly poignant if you have a daughter.

I've got two daughters. Jersey Girl never fails to get me. I hope Kevin starts thinking more fondly of it. He used to be really hard on Mallrats as well.

Oh, he apologizes for it, or at least used to. He blames the whole celebrity romance thing for ruining the movie more than anything else.

I must say though, it has spawned a funny bit where he says Will Smith refuses to take his calls now.

That's a shame to be honest. If it was the main focus of the film I could understand partially, but she's barely in it for ten minutes.

^^ as originally scripted and filmed, her role was a lot meatier. In the wake of Gigli they did a hatchet job on the movie to get her out as much as possible.

Kevin has screened the so-called director's cut of Jersey Girl with all J-Lo's stuff back in, and with Affleck's big speech to the town added back in (about an hour of footage all told) and those who saw it all rave about how much it improves upon the movie. Of course, it was screened to an audience of hardcore View Askew fanatics from his message board so they're not the most impartial crowd...

He once saw Smith as the saviour of the indie scene, which he admits in the article, and now feels like Smith is selling out to try and be a more mainstream filmmaker, which Smith has said he'd like to do.
Mainstream doesn't mean producing stupid movies. Speilberg and Cameron are mainstream but I highly doubt either will ever make a movie they equate with "a retarded kid".

My friend enjoyed "Jersey Girl" and I've just never had a chance to watch it...I may check it out one day yet. The SMODcast is awesome though.
