Kes?

Booooooooooring!

I don't feel the character brought anything to the show beyond the first episode.
I found the writing for the character as limited as the range of actress that played her.
The character was clearly overshadowed by more dramatic characters with bolder personalities too match.

Which characters despite Janeway and the Doctor? As far as I'm concerned Kes was the center of some of the better episodes.
I supposed if that opinion were more widely shared, the character wouldn't be living in Trek obscurity.

The episodic nature of "modern" Star trek does mean that 90 percent of the episodes focus on a single character rather a full sweep of the ensemble.

Kes didn't have very many episodes where she was the central character, only Before and After, and Fury come to mind... Oh, persistence of Vision, and that one with the fake pregnancy (Elogium!).. But of those 4 episodes, 2 were fantastic, one was forgettable and the last was a warcrime.

And now I have to ask which episode that is?

Was it Sacred Ground where she was in a coma for most of the whole thing?

How is that not a Kes episode?

Oh.

A Jennifer Lien episode where Jennifer plays someone else.

(Clever.)

I'm a little flush remembering how tight that costume got around her bum.

It's a catch 22.

Other women's men are great.

But if they'll cheat.

Take you for a ride.

They're worthless as a perfect husband which is where their only value was.

(Toggle the genders. It should work in several directions.)

Well, as the producers have said before, some characters work out (the Doctor) and some don't (Kes). She was one of the characters Beltran referred to as all-knowing-all-seeing. 'Got a problem? No worries, I'll just change it with my mind.' But she was also something of a cul de sac. Now that you broke up with Neelix, what good are you? I liked Jennifer Lien, she had a sultry voice like Mulgrew and she had a nice little figure but the character was just superfluous.

The words of wrongness here are "perfect" and "spouse" (gender toggle).

I don't watch day time TV unless it's forced on me.

The waiting area in the emergency room at the hospital usually.

But 1/2 of it seems to be the same talk show about a woman who doesn't know which one of 5 closely related individuals fathered each of her multiple children.

Honey, sweetie, darling Teacake... You are exceptional, so stop thinking that you can talk for the hoi polloi as if you were one of them.

:)
