Kelvin Timeline all but confirmed

Let's all hope for the best and hope for many more successful shows to come if this one goes well. Star Trek: Challenger, Star Trek: Endevour, etc lol - we can have our other eras.

Yeah this is definitely not a zero-sum game. Just because they're doing one show in the TOS era doesn't mean they'll never do a show in the post-Nemesis era. If this one works, who knows?

I think I'm still hungover from the 700+ hours we already have of Trek.

TOS will always be canon due to the appearances across all the spinoffs. I just consider Discovery a reboot. People will each deal with the various differences in their own way.
Agree. It is a reboot as was the J.J. film trilogy and that is okay with me so that the Star Trek franchise continues.

This has got to be the funniest fan reaction I have seen so far.

Has to be fake, he is complaining about how different it is and he's wearing a Trek 2009 t-shirt. Street cred denied.

Not unless technology gets bombed back to the stone age and there is the Great Rebuilding of 2175.

Or WWIII as in the Star Trek universe... it's conceivable that the third world war reduced our technological achievement level... but by 2063 we clearly had our first warp engine.. so after that, and with the help of the Vulcans, you'd think we regained the basic technology of what we had before the war.

I was watching the Trekyards video on Youtube and one the fans I think said that the ship might use bullets because I think he saw it on a console. Has anyone else seen this in the teaser?

Jason

This raises an interesting point! Will be perhaps get to see the Kelvin and Bdss. Capt. Robau in Discovery? (I know, probably not due to intellectual property reasons, but it might be fun to both placate and screw with fans at the same time, depending on sensibilities).
Wel, Favreau has directed the actor before, I believe. So, it might be a simple phone call ;)
I was sitting here thinking, and I don't know why we're even arguing about thi any mores. The fact of the matter is that DSC is set in the Prime Timeline. PERIOD. END. OF. STORY.

It doesn't matter how many people insist that it's set in the Kelvin Timeline; those people are wrong, and will never NOT be wrong.
Is it really worth the energy? People are going to think what they think.

That just sounds so unlikely. They are so far advanced beyond that kind of weaponry. I'll be shocked if they use bullets or anything like that.

EXACTLY.

For example, you could tell me a million times that DSC is in the Prime Timeline. I will counter 'but I don't wannaaaaaaa'. See? It's that easy to dismiss Word of God, and it's twice as fun as reality!

While I've never bought the idea that ray guns are automatically more advanced than projectile weapons, there's very little chance Trek is going to do a BSG and go with bullets. Phasers are way too ubiquitous.

I'm not gonna read this entire thread, but lemme get this straight.....

TPTB say this is Prime Universe. Not a reboot. Different looks, maybe, but not reboot and defo Prime Timeline.

But because some fans feel it looks like the Kelvin timeline, they basicly decide that it IS a reboot and/or Kelvin timeline, even though it's clearly stated by the people who actually CREATED the show it isn't??

Right...... Makes total sense. Completely logical.

What if Discovery has better stories and characters than TOS but is visually inconsistent with TOS? Will the people who complain now jump ship and consider TOS non-canon? :p
I mean, why stick to the inferior product, right?
How dare you! No other Trek show or movie could ever possibly have better stories or characters than TOS, and saying such things is blasphemy. :p

Tell me, how would you have reacted in 1979 to The Motion Picture? The entire visual aesthetic is completely different from TOS, despite taking place only 2-3 years later, yet the majority of fans accepted it all in stride as being part of the same universe. Yes, even the bumpy headed Klingons. Visual styles change as the decades go by, it's a fact of life. If Gene was able to say the movies and TNG took place in the original timeline, I don't see why the word of one of the producers/writers of DSC doesn't carry the same weight.

But I guess that would mean there wouldn't be a thread to argue about it then, would there?
That was all before the web was invented. Teh Interwebz is a wonderful invention, but it also sadly provides an egalitarian platform for anyone with an opinion, no matter how irrelevant or idiotic. That, plus, fans were ravenous for Trek of any kind back then after the cancellation, and were a little more accepting of it. Kind of a "hey, at least it has the Enterprise and all the original crew in it". Anything else was just an upgrade that was accepted.

Simpler times...

So the Star Wars prequels are good now with everyone when it comes to Asthetics??? Because they did a much better job of prequel Asthetics than this show...wayyyyy better....

Is John Favreau directing some episodes?
I made a mistake and mixed up DSC and Orville.

As a general rule, I have no issue with aesthetics in the PT.

Similarly, I have no issues with the aesthetics of DSC, thus far, because I haven't really seen them in action.
