Keller vs Beckett. More intresting "Atlantis" doctor?

It's not a hard concept to grasp.

She made out with one guy one week, and then showed interest in another guy (the first guy's FRIEND) the following week.

But if I personally had to list the adjectives to describe Keller, slut would probably be number 6 or 7. Behind annoying, wussy, crybaby, childish and out of her depth. In other words there are reasons why she's one of the most hated regular/recurring characters on SG

I would say slut would be third behind annoying and unprofessional.

Being flirty is one thing... but god damn all she did was be a flirt with everyone all the time and then whine about something.

Buts its ok for men to do it, I wonder out of all the TV shows you watch and hate ;) how many male characters are there in them that act like male whores. Shes settled down with McKay so wow what a total slut, not like Sheppard who oogles a girl most episodes.

I didn't say anything about Sheppard, however he was flirty, and somewhat flirted with Wier for awhile. Plus he had a job that fit him and that made sense. he did other things than sit around and hit on ever boob that walked by.

Keller didn't, Keller shouldn't have ever been on the Atlantis base. She should be working in a stripper trying to pay off her college bills because it's clue she failed out of college.

Once again through, I'm sure a few people here would like if Sheparrd worked as a stripper... :P

And you say anything bad about a female character on a badly written show with 2D characters and it's sexism! it's not sexism it's just terrible writing.

I don't get all the hate here for Keller. She was never my favorite but I almost never found her deserving of such vitriol. The only time she ever really annoyed me was in that Season 4 episode where she & Teyla got stranded on that planet and she wouldn't stop whining. But beyond that, I never found her so offensive. (Granted, I haven't seen Season 5 yet.) On the plus side, Keller was sexy and her romance made for an interesting McKay subplot.

Still, Beckett is my 2nd favorite Atlantis character of all time (after McKay). "Poisoning the Well" is far more interesting than anything Keller ever did. In addition to his interactions with McKay, I also really liked his scenes with Dr. Weir in "The Return." And although Keller is the sexy one, I find that, in a totally platonic, heterosexual way, Dr. Beckett is just kinda adorable & cuddly. It makes me want a Dr. Beckett plushie.

I actually liked the ep were her and Teyla was stranded on the Athosian settlement, homeworld. It's basically the first time she was off world, and found herself in a military type of situation. People forget that, most of the people on Atlantis are civilians and scientist to boot. They were chosen to join the project, because of their brains, not because of how well they can handle themselves in battle. I mean if Stephen Hawking wanted to join the project, would you turn him down just because he would be dead meat in a conflict with the Wraith?

I just prefer it when the useless people do their panicking in silence. I wasn't too fond of Dr. Felger either. Although, some characters, like Dr. McKay & Dr. Coombs are entertaining complainers, so maybe it just has to do with tone.

Keller flirted with 2 people omg 2 people I mean in this day n age thats abnormal. Sheppard if he had it his way would of probably banged half the galaxy by now ;). 1 of those 2 people Ronan he made the move and you could argue swept up in the moment but right after that Keller was like no I'lll eave that and she liked Rodney and told Ronan so when he tried to make a move on her.

This whole whore slut try to bang everything that came into her medical bay attitude is just a lame attempt to justify your hatred of a character on a show you pretty much hate anyway. I notice TV fans in particular SCI FI fans seems to hate female characters more than male I wonder why that is.

Weir, Teyla and Keller recieve so much hatred compared to there male counterparts from male fans.

Donna and to an extent Martha was the same in Doctor Who

Starbuck in BSG

T'Pol, Seven

the list goes on.

I disagree with this somewhat. Female fans are just as likely to get on female character's backs while casually ignoring the male character's shortcomings. The most obvious example being Kate from Lost (yes, it's got time travel in it, it's Sci-Fi, live with it). Rachel in Alias (aka "Boobs McPhee") got it too.

Hell just check out the anti-Keller threads on Gateworld. 90% of those are filled with women.

That's because the obsessed fangirls are jealous of Keller.

Only thing I don't like about her is that she ended up with McKay. McKay + Beckett = OTP.

:D

I don't understand the entire 'Keller is a slut' angle. As a half dozen other posters have indicated, by that measure, Shep is a SUPER-slut. The criticism reeks of a double standard and is sexist.

Why not criticize Keller's character on legitimate grounds? There are certainly plenty. Like, for example, her ridiculously young age for a person of her position (or profession, even). Like her complete lack of chemistry with David Hewlett as McKay, and yet the writer's continued obsession with that pairing. Like her introduction to replace a much loved character whose death was glossed over with a newer, sexed up character, only to have that character's death quickly reversed (sort of).

^I'd argue, however, that Beckett became a significantly more interesting character after his return. I liked his Doctors Without Borders in Space idea and I would have liked to have seen it explored further in later seasons.
