K'Eh's gardening tip thread

Eggs shells are also good for compost. My parents will save their coffee grounds and eggs shells in an old coffee can, and when it is full, they just add it it to the compost pile.

As far as the straw hat goes-if more battered implies more knowledge, a baseball bat is useful to give it a more weatherd look.

I love thunderstorms. We've only had one really good one this year, despite them being in the forecast every week. I'm disappointed.

I love me a thunderstorm too.

Interestingly, in Northern California, we can get "dry lightning," rainless thunderstorms that are BIG time yikes. They can start forest fires.

No ~ it has to be a good rain that you can go dancing naked in ;)

I don't - I HATE having to unplug TV and PC and all that :klingon:

I do that every night ~ do you know how big a carbon footprint you're leaving?!

My PC is usually on 24/7 so a thunderstorm is really a kick in my connectivities.

When compared to other one person families my consumption of electric power is average (according to the last many statements from the power company) I use less heat (whatsitcalled; when you get heat from a central plant?) than other people in flats of comparable size and I cycle or walk for all of my personal transportation needs, I recycle all of my waste that isn't incinerated (and made into usable heat) (wouldn't be legal to do otherwise where I live), I don't even own a tumble dryer nor do I remember when I last washed anything above 30°...

I'm not very worried about my carbon footprint.

^^ Becoming an e-worker has decreased my carbon footprint considerably.

It was a joke ~ don't get grumpy on me :p:)

No dancing in Northern California rain, 15 +/- 5 degrees C for highs in our rainy season (Nov/Dec - March/April)

Then you are entitled to wear clothing ~ but you must still dance in rain :)

At the golf club where I work apparently we have a warning system for gilfers too stupid to realise that it's thundering and lighting ~ it seems it's not a good idea to be out in a field when there's lightening, with a metal stick held up .
So one of the pros will sit in his car and just keep honking the horn! :guffaw:

There are some times that I find my job amusing :)

Why dance in the rain in the first place?

At times we're feeding hay to the cows in it, sometimes with a south wind upwards of 30 miles an hour.

You'd think those gawdawful trousers golfers wear would repel any lightening strikes. ;) Why the heck do they wear those things?

On the topic of Gardens: used, halved plastic barrels make excellent planters.

Under those conditions, you are excused :)
