Keeping Ilia around

Did you ever hear the story about how he proposed that all the Ferengi should have huge male members on TNG?

They do pay cheeky homage to this in a background scene of an episode of TNG. (Can't remember which one!) In a bar scene, a Ferengi male is chatting up some female characters in the background and he holds his hands out wide and one of the women gets a horrified look on her face.

Richard Arnold pointed out this scene to an audience at a convention.

^ Sounds like it maybe could have been "The Price"? I'm tempted to go and check, now. ;)

Not only that, I remember reading somewhere that Khambatta was actually hounded to present herself in the shower scene in TMP with Full Frontal Nudity and she was adamantly against that.
...Full frontal nudity in a film that ended up getting a G rating on its initial release? I find that very hard to believe.
Ray Harryhaussen's movies had plenty of nudity for being "G" rated fare and these came out at around the same time. CLASH of the TITANS and SINBAD & the EYE of the TIGER, notably. As for my claims about Persis Khambatta's being asked to present herself naked, here is some evidence in that direction, for you, as well:

"Khambatta also faced difficulties during filming. The actress' conservative Indian upbringing meant she would not appear nude as called for in the script during the Ilia probe's appearance. The producers got her to agree to wear a thin skin-colored body stocking ... "

In answer to EnriqueH's query:
The learned THERIN of ANDOR provided links about Persis and her Convention Goings (among other things) in the "cheap cheap cheap" thread on this very site:

Karen Gillan as Ilia in a new Star Trek movie/series.

She's already bald guys and she has a sexy accent!

I'll take my check in the mail Paramount.

Thanks, man!

That was interesting. Too bad that con flopped.

I came up with the idea that the Ferengi "electric whips" were actually the Ferengi's penis', that they normally carried coiled in one hand.

:)

The giant Ferengi dongs are suggested by the giant metal codpieces in this concept drawing from TNG's early days.

"Giant Ferengi Dongs" would make one hell of a band name.

I remember a quick butt shot of the heroine in CLASH OF THE TITANS as she was being bathed to be sacrificed to the monster towards the end of the film, and maybe some teasing the audience with her nudity as she stepped out of the bath. Kind of similar to Ursula Andress in the decontamination shower in DR. NO (Andress was wearing a body stocking in that scene as well, I believe).

Having Saavik interact with Valeris would have been great, I wouldn't have made Saavik that movies turncoat.

:)

Especially since Valeris was supposed to be Saavik initially.

I hated that idea the first time I heard it. After rewatching VI with that in mind, I could see it. In fact, if it was Saavik instead of Valeris, the emotional impact would have been greater.

Much greater.

They could've had any number of characters in on the conspiracy that would've been more effective than Valeris: Admiral Morrow, Saavik, Captain Stiles.

Or if you REALLY want to be controversial: Chapel and Rand.

Not Morrow and Stiles, two one time characters with very little screen time and even fewer lines.

Morrow became Cartwright in ST IV because Robert Hooks declined to return, IIRC.

Is that right???

Wow, you learn something new everyday.

Why did he decline?

(I want to say I also saw him guest star in an episode of TJ Hooker.)

I always thought he was terrific in the role.

Man...Star Trek has GOT TO BE the absolute KING at introducing cool characters and then killing them off or doing nothing with them.

Morrow became Cartwright in ST IV because Robert Hooks declined to return, IIRC.

Is that right???

Yes, I've read a ST IV script treatment in which Morrow is featured.

Why did he decline?
He was already signed to be the main star in a telemovie, "Words by Heart", IIRC, and it clashed with ST IV.

(I want to say I also saw him guest star in an episode of TJ Hooker.)
Two different roles in that, both times as a police officer (harkening back to his popular 60s' "N.Y.P.D." role).

I am a fan of Greek Mythology and a few years ago, I saw CLASH of the TITANS in the theatre, which I enjoyed. Wanting more of this kind of thing, I went and got the original Clash of the Titans, so I own that. And I can tell you, for certain that there is more than a quick flash of nudity in that. Danae. Perseus' mother, is seen breastfeading her infant son, where the other breast is clearly shown for I don't know ... 15 seconds, maybe. Then there's another sequence, not long after, where both she and her son are walking away from the camera, along the beach, naked, for about 20 seconds, or more. So, these are not quick flashes, obviously. Maybe it was context that's why this stuff flew back in the day with the "G" rating. Whatever the reason, I'm pretty sure there's nothing special about the version I own. It seems pretty standard, to me ...

On a side note, it's astonishing how many people involved in the Star Trek movies turned up in guest spots on T.J. Hooker.

Phase II's Leiutenant Xon/TMP's Commander Branch himself, David Gautreaux, popped up in one episode (and later in Boston Legal, too).

I'd like to think Shatner was personally involved in the casting decision, but more than likely it was just coincidence. ;)
