Katie Lucas Mad At Some SW Fans

The original version still exists. It's his work of art, he has every right to tweak it until he's happy with it.

I don't think it matters if it was meant to be sarcastic, or over the top, it's still inappropriate. (Just like "That's so Gay" being used for things that are stupid, or the various derogitory remarks implying Mentally Handicapped-ness)

I thought the whole "Lucas raped my childhood" had become a knowingly tongue-in-cheek thing to say, even if you're complaining about the suckiness of the prequels. A sarcastic over-the-top. The only time I ever heard it used seriously was back in 1999 after which it became an over-the-top meme.

Unfortunately some few have used it seriously, though they probably don't dare nowadays for fear of being mocked.

if the original still exists, then where can i buy a copy of star wars that has been erm...unmolested by cgi

On the one hand, she's right. The whole phrase of "rape my childhood" is stupid, ignorant, and shouldn't exist. Bravo.

On the other hand, all I can hear from her is "Waah, waah, don't say mean things about my daddy! I'm a rich little brat whose had everything she's ever wanted most of her life and been sheltered from reality and now I find reality really mean and evil and stuff!"

You want fan-boys to stop beating up on dear old dad, missy? Tell him to stop fucking up what he did right the first time.

IMHO, movies are art, and once sold, you can't just go back and tweak them to death because you're the original artist. Just because you're successful at the same time as your creation doesn't mean you can alter it out of such power. That's arrogant as fuck. If you've got a painting hanging in a museum that you've sold to such, you don't get to go in and add a few new brush strokes for your own damn pleasure. Sorry.

I'm more upset that some people are so PC that using rape as a metaphor gets them bent out of shape. seriously, grow a thicker skin.

That said, "lucas raped my childhood" is really childish.

it makes you look STUPID. USE THE FUCKING DICTIONARY. RAPE IS NOT WHAT A MOVIE DID TO YOUR CHILDHOOD. End of story.

Hmmm, okay Katie...

A Dictionary

Of the definitions:

(as a noun)
4. an act of plunder, violent seizure, or abuse; despoliation; violation: the rape of the countryside.

(as a verb)
7. to plunder (a place); despoil.

From the World English Dictionary:
3. any violation or abuse: the rape of justice

So it seems "rape", while extreme, is apt considering many consider the changes made to the trilogy over the last two decades as having been a violation to their memories, childhood, the original art of the movies.

Katie Lucas, words do have more than one meaning.

This.

From now on I'm going to say "George Lucas betrayed and murdered my childhood."

Your childhood is already gone. How can you retroactively murder it, though?

You know what Daddy Lucas is probably thinking about this? "Has the check cleared the bank yet?" I honestly don't believe Lucas really puts any stock in internet opinions. Maybe Ms. Lucas should take a page from his book and just shrug it off as "it's the net, online fans are pricks"

Damn it, we're a Star Trek board with a Doctor Who subforum, we will make it happen. Then we'll show our past selves, who's the real boss of ourselves.

I agree with Katie. I find that people who claim Lucas ruined their childhood tend to be acting like children.

Have you ever been raped? If not, you have no understanding of how serious it is to use the phrase, and it's not simply PC crap that should be ignored by growing a thicker skin.

First he rapes my childhood, now she's trying to rape my adulthood by taking away my description of what he did. I'm outraged! :shifty:

Let the hate commence.

Seriously though - who the hell is Katie Lucas and why should I care what she thinks?

Agreed, Katie.

It was only a few days ago I read the real reason why Greedo shoots first now, it makes sense that he was trying to retain his PG rating. Yet people flip their own shit about it and for what?

The sense of entitlement from some "fans" is disgusting.

And it's not at all cool to be raped, either. It's probably best to keep that in mind.

They have no choice but to act like children because George Lucas took their childhood away from them.

Anyways Katie Lucas, who I never knew existed before today, wrote some tweets that raped my eyeballs.

I'm tempted to join up with Twitter to ask how she feels about Dave Filloni's nose being so far up George Lucas' asshole he can smell whatever George is eating.

The word "rape" has more than one meaning. To get offended over its use in non-sexual cases shouldn't have any effect on people who have been sexually raped.

Rape can also mean to pillage, squander or to otherwise ruin.

To say "rape my childhood" doesn't mean people are saying their childhood has been sexually taken advantage of, but simply that it has been ruined or otherwise tarnished by the changes made to the Star Wars trilogy (or whatever caused the "rape"), further harmed by the continued in-availability of the original movies in a modern format.

Further, when people say it they're being mostly humorously melodramatic and/or extreme. I don't think I've ever seen or heard it used in a serious manner and certainly not in a way to suggest actual sexual abuse.

"Rape" doesn't just mean to sexually abuse.

Words have more than one meaning.

Her visage does the same for me.
