Kathryn Janeway - Post "Endgame"

Trying to read them in the correct order is a pain, if you don't buy them monthly or when they are published immediately. I still miss the numbering system the books used to have.

Yet, according to the writers/editors, there is no "correct order." Each book stands alone. It must be true because they say so. Right? :guffaw:
Yeah.
They stand alone about as well as a one legged person stands on a gravelly hill. Doable but not without great difficulty.

I like Janeway, but I also don't have a problem with her being dead in the novels either. Starship captains may seem immortal, but they really aren't and sometimes they do die tragically. Janeway's death was a major point of focus in "Full Circle" and her passing had major consequences for characters like Chakotay and Tuvok (whose reaction made me like him even more than I already did).

I think the chances of Janeway being resurrected will depend on whether or not she's referenced in any future Trek movie or TV show that places her past 2381 or whatever. In the meantime, I'm digging the both familiar and unfamiliar turns VOY has taken in the books of late.

all it would take is spock prime making such a reference in the next movie.

Assuming that Spock Prime will be in the next movie (or any future movies) and that he will need to refer to someone who hasn't been born yet...
:vulcan:

uh spock prime came from a period several years past where the recent books are..
and it wouldnt even need nimoy..it could be a reference like elder spock said blah blah..

Wow, I had no idea the panty-twisting about Janeway being offed in the books was so virulent...and amusing.

^^
Well, we are actually a lot of people who don't like or accept the annihilation of Janeway.

And then there was this Guy.

It's not the most worst thing in the world for a post modern woman to slum towards but methinks Janeway wears grannypanties, ergo even the most sadistic and righteous twisting would leave all her bits and pieces facing north and south completely easy and unpinched, you'know like those mattresses with no roll together or the locks and compartmentalization which made the Titanic unsinkable.

So we're not allowed to express the opinion that it was a stupid move?

If you don't wanna read it then why are you here?

Okay, creepy filter back on I think. For the rest of you I'm not sure why the idea of there being Janeway fans in the Voyager forum is such a shocker but to each their own. Just keep the trolling down so I don't have to put down my coffee to start handing out warnings. I hate the paperwork.

Janeway answered two of my questions

What if a crazy Captain ran a starship?

And another.

What if nobody on the ship seemed to realise it? :)

I'm going to assume you're not trolling here and ask "Why do you think she was crazy?"

Equinox was my favorite episode of Voyager. Here's why:

It put up two very different ways a star ship Captain could crack under the premise of being stranded far from the Federation.

First, there was Ransom's way of cracking, in that he completely abandoned the ideals a Starfleet officer ought to have. He didn't just 'bend' the Prime Directive. He ran over the ideals that formed the foundations of the Federation at Warp 10 with a Borg Cube. Then, as a polar opposite, there was Kathryn who held so tightly to those ideas the very notion of anyone doing what Ransom did drove her to endanger her ship to stop him.

I think that sort of fanatical adherence to Starfleet ideals is what really defined her as a Captain. There are a ton of episodes where she has to reference what other Captains have done or the Federation Charter itself to try to figure out what to do. Like The Omega Directive- this drove her to almost go on a suicide mission simply so she could adhere to the rules. Had they challenged that resolve to that extent more often I think her character could have gone even further than it did.

In my opinion she wasn't crazy enough and I say that with the thought "What if it had been Sisko out there? Or Picard? Or Kirk? Would they have held so tightly to the Starfleet code or would they have tread a little more in Ransom's direction?"

Just having a little fun with what I read here.

If you're referring to the paraphrase by Mulgrew would you happen to have a copy of her saying that? I've read a lot of her inteviews and would interested in reading it. Unfortunately, this was never referenced at this site.

Hmmm did a little googling but with no success.

But of course there have been alot of interviews.

I haven't found a direct quote, either. My guess is that the bipolar label was asked in a question and that Mulgrew was simply responding to it--and saying to blame the writers, because, obviously, Mulgrew didn't play her that way. I don't believe that Mulgrew would ever call Janeway bipolar; every time she talks about the captain, it is always in very affectionate terms. She loved the character, quite frankly, and anyone would (IMHO). :techman:

Who said I didn't want to read it?

I find it hilarious. Almost reminiscent of the "JJ raped my childhood" crowd.

Please, continue.

I was just remarking that I had no idea that there was such a reaction. I continue to hope that such devotion has merit, but so far, I'm just not getting it. But masochist that I am, I'm still watching. Maybe there's hope for me, when I get to the part where she loses the damn bun.

She should've been in jail.

For the hair if nothing else.

Don't feed the trolls. ;)

That isn't trolling, considering her murdering Tuvix.

Held those ideals so tightly? Yeah, when it suited her.

But anyway, I didn't read the new Voyager novels, but if they wanted to "Resurrect" Janeway it would be easy from what I have read here. Now she is an Admiral, her personality seems different? Make the dead Janeway an 8472 impostor. New Delta Quadrant Fleet finds the real Janeway held captive somewhere. Viola, Janeway is back where she belongs, alive, with a reasonable return story.

Also, why is everyone insisting there would have had to have been a screwup followed by a demotion to get her back in the center seat? She could have just decided that the Admiralty was not right for her at the time, and resigned.
