Kate Mulgrew - Orange is the New black

I think Natasha is hilarious.

Laura's biological clock must really be ticking, she was looking for a Swedish Husband in that radio interview... and now she's looking for a tattooed cockney. :p

Family drama, I watched 5 episodes yesterday.

"Scorpion and the Frog."

Get red to say it too! Get red to say it too! Get red to say it too!

"Sigh".

A couple left, but it's been obvious since episode 4 or 5 that Figeroah is going to be thrown into prison here at the end of this season.

Shhh.

"I'm not an alcoholic... I'm Australian."

So, so, true.

Soso?

I'm gonna go against the soso flow and say soso is boring. She just wasn't believable to me as fauxtivist, a hippie, a self absorbed blatherer. I think it's the actor who was extremely bland.

Not even a nude scene could save her.

Although, credit to the actor for making this character as intensely annoying as she planned on because the script and direction suggested it.

"The Neelix factor".

There's a positive Soso flow? :wtf:

Ick. :ack:

I think Soso is important in the same way the (ick) Larry storyline is important, it gives us mileposts against which to compare Piper's growth, glacial though it seems this time.

Look at what Piper does when she enters the quarantine room upon her return to Litchfield. She HUGS Miss Rosa and Anita like old pals and they don't rebuff her.

She tries to soothe the crying Soso when urged on by Anita, but when Soso presumes too much by getting into Piper's bed, the Park Slope debutante hands Soso her ass and kicks her out of her space.

Old Piper aka "pre Pennsatucky beat down" Piper would never have done that.

Even though new Piper still tends to wax philosophic this season, she can recognize how IRRITATING that is when Soso does it and speaks up. "Nobody understands what you're saying!".

Is it her fault that the chick hasn't got a clue? ("Oh, what was the context?")

At least Nicky found a "use" for that busybody. :alienblush:

Sure, Soso may have some points re prison conditions etc, but she still has very little clue about mounting a true protest. She's just a "little girl playing house" while everyone else is living the nightmare.

A leaderless movement that can't decide if its FOR real maple syrup or the FAKE kind? :cardie:

AND since when do they need to discuss/vote on whether it's right to dump demented little old ladies at the bus station? :scream:

Soso is an indictment of her twenty-something liberal politics, something this 30something Smith grad knows all about.

As for Larry? :klingon:

I see him as the "rich man" in Chekov's short story "The Bet" and Piper as (naturally) his willing prisoner who endures 15 years in solitary. Over the years the free man doesn't evolve while the prisoner studies/educates himself to the point where he evolves beyond the bet itself.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bet_(short_story)

Insipid Larry isn't just a counterbalance to the adventurous Alex, he's a warning to the Park Slope debutante that THIS is what she was rapidly and willingly becoming.

Love that line when Piper was going though her clothes at Larry's house and she wonders WHY she thought she needed all of them.

Yeah Piper is getting her authenticity on.

I just don't like the soso actor. I just never believed her, she doesn't make a good stereotype and she doesn't make a good character. It's like the actor never observed the kind of person she plays in the wild, or in movies even. She is flat and unengaging, she's supposed to be manically babbling but she sounds more like she's reading a teleprompter.

I like that they have someone like soso in the show, but I don't like who they have. She is dull.

I did like how Piper tried to trade her for a blanket though.

I thought it was funny that TPTB made this character Asian, since the main criticism of some OitNB naysayers last year was how LITTLE the only Asian character spoke, implying racism by the PTB's. (Those same critics didn't bother to mention silent Norma's race, but I digress.)

I have a question on another topic completely.

Remember when Healy's counselor asked about his Russian mail order bride?

Ever wonder WHY he picked a Russian?

Do you think he secretly harbors the hots for a Russian cook of our acquaintance?

Awful people are not allowed to slobber, even in their dreams, over Kate.

NO NO LEAVE HER ALONE

Probably he did have an okay relationship with Red, largely because Red is smart and knows how to butter bread, and that made him more amenable to a Russian. Since most other women under his uhh.. "care" hate his guts and he knows it it probably stood out.

I would like, but prefer such event if Kate is in Europe. Flights to US are expensive. And I wonder about the high of bids already :wtf:
As far i remember at the con in Czech Republik a dinner for 4 person was auctioned and sold for 2.000,-- $. Which is really ok, if the buyer has 3 friends and they share.

I have the feeling, due to OITNB the "average price" for such meet and greets raised a lot. :scream:

Soso is first season Piper, idealistic rather than pragmatic. Having her allows Piper to see how the prisoners regarded her when she arrived. And Soso was annoying by design--it seems silly to complain that the character is doing what the writers intended. She's not like Neelix, whom we were supposed to love. And in the end, Soso makes Piper more likeable, meaning Pipers perspective remains engaging.

Stunt casting?

Nahhhhh.

The teaser says Prepon dishes on season 3... if she did I missed it.

Sounds like she primarily discusses season 2.

I got Miss Claudette.

How I did that (not that I mind) is beyond me because she never called/visited family and I don't recall her eating waffles.

An interview with Danielle about Vee & Taystee. (spoilers)

An interview with the ladies in Texas. I agree with their comments on kids NOT watching the show.

I think I'm coming to love Uzo's stories of her mother.

32 jokes only OitNB fans will understand.

Needless to say I like the 4th song in the musical. :mallory:
