This interview with Abigail Savage (Gina, Red's kitchen waif) is at least 6 months old but still quite interesting. number 1 being, Abigail has another career when she's not acting. Loved the hug she got from Kate when Mulgrew encountered her on this 2nd job. :bolian:

Oh, and the previous articles claiming Abigail originally auditioned for the "Alex" role were totally off base. She did originally audition for another role, but it was as Nicky Nichols, NOT Alex Vause. Whew... that makes much more sense.
 
I've been rewatching the start of season 2.

One detail that's not clear to me, how come after the fight they didn't find the screwdriver and pointy cross? Did Healy find them and hide them before anyone else got to the scene?

Also, how come Piper was never charged with perjury? Did they just not think it was worth the money?
 
I think the snow hid the pointy cross and the screw driver. Most of the injuries were consistent with punching and they "went" with that.

I think Piper will be hit with a perjury charge in season 3. The Feds would be so pissed at Piper for changing her testimony that I doubt "money" would deter them from taking her down again.

At what point did Piper make statements to the contrary anyway, is that when she was first arrested?

It would be cool in season 3 if they covered the issue of prisoners having to choose between longer sentences and the threat of being murdered.
 
Eventually the weapons will be found unless a snow shovel picked them up and tossed them elsewhere.

Piper spoke with the Feds in Chicago with Larry's Dad at her side before they went into the courtroom. So the Feds know what she told them NOT under oath and how it conflicts with what she told the court UNDER oath. I think it could really go badly for Piper if they want to pursue it.

As for longer sentences vs threat of murder... unfortunately for Alex, it was freedom with the threat of murder vs breaking parole by having a gun in the house and going back to prison where she could still be murdered.

Kind of a "lose, lose" scenario for Alex and a "win-win" for us since it brings more conflict back into Litchfield.
 
I'm not talking about Alex. For Piper, it seemed to me the reason she lied was that she was afraid of hitmen. That's why that episode showed Piper refusing to jump off the back of the bus and learning not to disturb the status quo. Alex knew how Piper operated and knew scaring her would get her not to testify so she could make a better deal.

So if Piper were charged with perjury it could satirize that aspect of the justice system how prisoners are compelled to testify at risk of retribution.
 
Nahhhh. That's not why she lied.

Piper was set to tell the truth and then the door opened up and she saw Alex looking up at the ceiling with the most plaintive look and her heart just melted for the woman she once loved.

As for telling the truth on the stand vs fear of murder in prison or in the free world, Piper could have simply pled the 5th amendment and refused to answer any and all questions regarding the case. Everyone called to testify in a trial is at risk of the defendant coming after them when the trial was over, whether they are free or prisoners. Just like what Alex feared the drug kingpin was going to do to her after she testified.

The one thing that surprised me regarding the Alex/Piper testimony thing, is why Alex didn't turn it around on Piper like she kept doing all season 1.

"PIPER! I told the truth in there because YOU said you were going to tell the truth! I didn't want to look like I was lying after you came clean with the Feds, and I didn't want to make it look like YOU were lying to get a lighter sentence if I walked in and contradicted you."

Sometime this winter I will have to do a re-watch of season 2, just to get me prepared for season 3 this (?) June.
