Kate, Cigs, and "Scientific Method"

Some people are prone to the wrinkles and stains but others are not. My husband has been a 60+ cigarette a day smoker (he's a musician) since he was about 14 yet he has no stains or wrinkles. Similarly for my parents and brother (I've never smoked except for a little "green stuff" while at uni) who have smoked all their lives too. It's a bit like alcoholics - unfortunately the rigors of alcoholism really show on some people while others get away with it.

She coughs like that in YoH, too. My friends who smoke sound about the same, although I'm not a medical professional. ;) But it sure seems plausible.

I work at a job where I dearly wish I could smoke, but lung cancer is what took the life of a grandparent I never got the chance to know. That's usually motivation enough for me not to think too hard about starting, but it's sure tempting sometimes.

My husband sounds like that too every morning when he gets out of bed....

My mum died from bowel cancer 12 years ago and in the past 10 years I've had cancer twice (2 different ones) - enough to drive a person to smoke some would say..lol. I am now an advocate for ovarian cancer awareness and on the national awareness council for cancer survivors. Oh - and now I get to wear 3 different coloured ribbons....teal, yellow and purple!!

teal = ovarian
yellow = bladder
purple = cancer survivor

Yeah, I was aghast when I heard her hacking in Year of Hell. Because I suddenly realized what I had previously sounded like every single day. For reals.

Let that motivate you to continue not starting.

With chronic bronchitis and asthma, I sound like that without the help of cigarettes. :(

Thanks!

In spite of losing several organs etc, I'm actually very well and very very active. There is nothing like a few slow waltz's with the grim reaper to add new meaning and perspective to life. And my hair didn't even go grey....LOL!!
