Katana Class 'fanfic'

I saw this at http://shipyard.scifi-art.com/katana.html
I thought it was a neat variation of the Intrepid class and I was going to use it in my own little story. I decided that since it was not a canon ship I could make it any size that I wanted. I decided that it would be somewhere between the Nova Class and the Intrepid.

With that in mind, could someone give me some ideas on size and ship type?

I am not good at guessing size and decks, so any input would be helpful.

From the rear it looks pretty much identical to the Nova, not that that says much. Just going by the size of the windows it is around 8 - 10 decks in all going by eye. In terms of length, its nacalles are swept back more and its saucer is longer, which would make it a bit longer than the Nova, which according to the non-canon reference book Starship Spotter, is 165m in length.

If we assume its around the same height as the Nova (which is given by that book as 31.4m), than scaling the Katana accordingly makes it around 213m.

As for its role, I remember seeing the ship on the old Star Trek Australia site but I can't recall if the write up about it said anything significant and there was a fan fiction back in the late 1990s/early 2000s that used the ship as the main ship, I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: The fan fic has gone but I found this write up from the fan fic on how he viewed the ship: Katana class starship. So he saw it as an escort, like the Defiant and entering service as a result of Wolf 359, its 12 decks and 255m

Just did a search under "USS Kantana NCC-74900" and found it mentioned in one of asdb.net fan starship sourcebooks. Its listed as 313m and classed as a heavy frigate. Here is the link, and you'll find it in the Starfleet Prototypes pdf, which is half way down the page.

I like the Frigate version. It isn't a Nova, but on the other hand, it isn't an Intrepid either.

actually, it looks more like it has 12 decks. by the looks of the pictures provided, it only has 2 torpedo launchers. (one fore and one aft) phasers are self-evident. either way, let me know when your fanfic is finished, i'd like to read it.

Thanks for the encouragement for the 'fanfic', but I had a reason for putting it in quotes. I am writing something for personal which is not writing fan fiction. I always like to have some extra details. I even named the ship: USS Mostar after the Mostar Bridge. (destroyed during the Bosnian conflict).

Anyway, I like some of the details of the Frigate from the PDF file, but it was just too powerful. For a ship smaller than the Intrepid Class it was just as fast and it had Quantum Torps. I made it slower with normal torps. The PDF never mentioned an auxilary craft that most starships have under the saucer (but don't use in any series). There seems to be a large enough spot for a Waverider to never be used.
