This. Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana especially are getting unapproachable. Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban (almost) the same.
They must be considering going the X-Men route (post The Last Stand): Solo character spin-offs, prequels etc.
And if I may be allowed to quote my own post, I don't see them adding Chris "Thor" Hemsworth to the already expensive cast for Trek 4 as was originally planned (although that was announced 13-14 months ago, before Beyond lost them money in the box office and has surely already being scrapped now).
They could replace the whole cast/crew with just Chris Hemsworth (and a cast of inexpensive "unknowns") and make a standalone George Kirk ST09 prequel film. Or a Captain Christopher Pike prequel film. But it's a huge gamble.
In both STID and STB they brought in expensive guest actors (Cumberbatch & Elba). Hemsworth would be equally expensive if not more.
I also get the impression they want Jaylah to be part of the main cast. Sofia Boutella certainly isn't getting any cheaper.
The more and more you look at, the less likely it seems ST4 will get made. Too expensive with not enough financial upside. Trek just isn't popular enough to justify the massive production budgets these types of films require.

Lose the return of the pasty faced Brit and those are good ideas.
Heck, give 'em Rick Berman, Ronald D. Moore & Brannon Braga and $35 mill...

The studio is the cheapest.
It would be only fair for Zoe to be third lead (like she was before) and get what Zach gets, or a little less, but if beyond's cast list is sorted from top billing, Karl got payed more than Zoe already. She isn't expensive because this is hollywood, and she may be their biggest star with Chris and the more needed, but actresses are all payed less compared to their male costars.
Eta: I remember that Chris' new contract established he would get 6 millions for a fourth movie and the rest of the cast less than that. It may sound a lot to us but it's actually cheap compared to what other studios pay their protagonists, and compared to the millions they spend for promotion and other things.
I guess it all depends on what's in their specifc contracts, their might be a clause for additional films and what pay rise they would get.
