Karl Urban : Star Trek 4 would be a blast.

So you just threw some numbers around to make it seem like you had a valid point but when upon closer examination (and some third grade math) the same numbers disproved you, you doubted the same numbers you yourself quoted?!
Nope. I told you they made money. They did. You took it from there and ran with it which, of course, you are free to do.

Monopoly money maybe.
We frown upon money laundering in this state.

Sure, sure. Don't let the real facts and figures plus every credible source persuade you otherwise. If you keep repeating that you may even convince yourself.

Alternative facts equals lies people.

I can confirm that Monopoly money worth is the same as the Zimbabwean dollar.
Do they pass go? If so, do they collect $200? If they do, what's that in American money?

Whether or not Star Trek: Beyond made money enough to warrant another film installment. Granted, it is a somewhat tangential discussion, but one that falls under the umbrella of whether or not Star Trek 4 (or 14, if you prefer) will happen. This is in line with the OP's linked article, which states:

Thor: Ragnarok star Karl Urban is hoping he gets to revisit his other big budget franchise, as fans await official word on a fourth entry in the rebooted Star Trek film series. Urban is unsure of the franchise’s future, but would love to portray the loveably surly Dr. McCoy once again.

The Star Trek film series is in a strange spot. J.J. Abrams’ first film in the alternate timeline reboot of the exploits of Kirk and Spock was a huge hit both critically and financially. The followup, Star Trek Into Darkness, also enjoyed mainstream success, but was decidedly more divisive among Star Trek fans. Last year’s Star Trek Beyond, directed by The Fast and the Furious veteran Justin Lin, was beloved by fans but ended up with relatively disappointing box office returns, leaving the franchise’s future in peril.

And also...

All that said, it is very much an open question whether or not there will be a fourth Star Trek film at this point. While J.J. Abrams is said to be on board as a producer with a story involving time travel and Captain Kirk’s long deceased father (played by Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth), the movie has not been green-lit, and no director is attached.

So even though it may seem a bit wayward, it's still on topic. Just my two bits, though.

I like to see the Kelvin-verse given another movie. The Thor sub-universe was practically dead after the number 2 and yet it is making a comeback. Star Trek Beyond was a good movie, but it came on the heels of Into Darkness which I quickly want to forget. The director Justin Lin did a good job but he is not a tent pole name. For a fourth movie to be successful Paramount will need to go all in: get Khan back, make Starfleet part of the plot, more emphasize on Uhura and Sulu and no silly revisionist plot elements that upset fans. I remain skeptical a fourth movie will be made.

Really hope they can get it done.........I really like the way these actors work together.

His Fast and Furious movies have grossed insane amounts of money that Trek could only dream of.
I don't remember anybody every saying "I am going to see the new Justin Lin movie", but you're right he did make a lot of money. For Star Trek 4 I believe the arguments remains standing - somebody famous should direct the movie

I disagree. They need to cut the budget on these movies. A big name director can cost 20M for one film. Get a hungry up and coming director with a vision that's still trying to establish him/herself.

They should also cut the amount of action in these films significantly. That will save a lot of money as well. Star Trek just isn't popular enough to justify a 180M production budget plus another 100M+ in marketing costs.

If they can't make a decent sci fi thriller with some action and a decent ship battle for 130million then there's something wrong.

Yeah. I think part of the problem is that it's an ensemble cast and the actors get more expensive each film.

But I agree they should be able to get the budget down and still have some action and nice visuals there just won't be as much of it. It could end up being a good thing. More focus on story and character.

As much as I loved Beyond, the level of chaos, destruction, and action verged on the gratuitous. I bet scenes like the saucer flip cost a bloody fortune.
