Karen Gillan Talks Jean Shrimpton

With We'll Take Manhattan, Karen Gillan's BBC4 movie about Jean Shrimpton, airing later this month, the Guardian profiles Gillan and prints some amusing photos.

There's almost no Who content to the article, though, except that she's "relieved" to be leaving the series. It's a puff piece, really.

Cue the misinterpretations of what Karen means by "relieved". Considering Doctor Who has been acknowledged as one of the tougher gigs on TV (much as Star Trek TNG and spinoffs were also considered a tough job) not to mention the fact fan interest is so intense, I can see why she'd be relieved, but I hope folks don't take it the wrong way. The Guardian doesn't show the complete quote so we don't even know the context.

At any rate, I hope this film does well because Karen deserves to have success and I'd hate to see her fade away into obscurity after she makes her Doctor Who bow.

All that matters is she's gonna be naked.

Be honest, that's all any straight or lesbian DW viewers are really bothered about...

Yeah I thought it was quite interesting, and quite a few Who connections; Karen obviously, but also Robert (Androzani) Gleneister and Helen (Vampire of Venice) McGrory. I thought Karen was good, though it was weird hearier her do an English accent :)

Well she dioes have a good figure, so I am in agreement with those who have previously posted on this subject. I dare say she is the muse of many a male fantasies even more so than Billie Piper. It will be a sad shame when we reach the story where she leaves the series.

"she doesn't have a bad angle on her"
David Bailey on Karen Gillan. I mean Jean Shrimpton.
