Karaoke!

Every time I go to Japan. It's kinda hard to get away from.

I have gone to Karaoke bars here, but it's usually just not as fun; the atmosphere is too different.

On thing though, I wish people would learn to pronounce it right.

Absolutely love it. A group of us used to do it every Tuesday until the venue closed down :( Theres another place closer to my house but the group tends to be a lot smaller and we only go when we're completely drunk.

I think the best of the bunch was Teenage Dirtbag by two of the most addicted members of the pack.

Bohemian Rhapsody was the winning combo when I lived in Dundee and would usually earn me free drinks, when I visit family Every Sperm is Sacred is always worth the entertainment value being a catholic town.

Didn't we have an actual karaoke thread here, where people sent in sound clips of them singing along to real songs?

I remember Holdfast's well. ;)

^^ I don't remember that.

"Eye Of The Tiger," of course, is the other song I was trying to think of. I had my brother's girlfriend in stitches during the free-form section where I just kept saying, "Tiger, tiger, tiger...." :rommie:

Pray you never do.
I think Trippy's going to remind me.

Once, and I was really drunk. Fortunately, too drunk to remember it.

(Pity those in the bar... I can't sing. At. All.)
I would pay hard money to see (and hear) you do karaoke! :shifty:

I think that's rather difficult to sing, like most songs by The Smiths.
Hm, I guess there are two ways to look at it. Granted, it is hard to sing Smiths songs exactly the way Morrissey sings them. (Particularly passages he sings fast and/or high are hard to nail.)

But I'd say it's easy to sing a Smiths song in the spirit of Morrissey. Just be creative, be whiny and generally don't try to care for proper singing (whatever that is). Just feel the song and the lyrics and I think everyone can master a song like There Is A Light That Never Goes Out. :techman:

I'd go for "The Boy With A Thorn In His Side" if I had to as I'm always singing along to it, anyway.
Ah, that's arguably one of the best songs ever written, as far as I'm concerned. It's nice that you like it, too. :luvlove: I'd love to listen to your rendition. Any other Smiths songs you like?

Oh, and Zion, love the new avatar! The whole Interstella 5555 movie is amazing! :techman:

When I was stationed in Macedonia I was hanging out at the officers club on Camp Able Sentry and a bunch of UN officers and UN civilian workers were with us partying. One chick was from Greece or Jordan one of those foriegn countries and she was hot. I found out she loved anything American and wanted to visit it one day.

So, to impress her I grabbed the microphone and belted out James Brown, "Living in America". A couple of female officers and our scout platoon leader were my background singers.

This chick started cheering and danced to the whole song. We hit it off after that.

Yes, I did..in college. :) We had a karaoke night on a Saturday evening in the Student Center..I did several songs, one comes to mind as being the best. "Invincible" by Pat Banatar. And "Take my Breath Away" by Berlin. It was funny, but a girl who was in the choir pulled me aside after I sang and said: girl where did you learn how to sing?! You have a beautiful voice. The thing was that I had practiced a great deal every single day and got up in front of 200 people to sing a song at a pageant at college. I got a standing ovation!!!! :O

True. I hadn't thought about it that way.

I'd go for "The Boy With A Thorn In His Side" if I had to as I'm always singing along to it, anyway.

I like most of their songs. My favourites (apart from the two songs already mentioned) are "I Want The One I Can't Have", "Paint A Vulgar Picture", "Unhappy Birthday", "Nowhere Fast" and "Frankly, Mr. Shankly".

Well, the thread was more of a TrekBBS Idol thread. I think it got pruned prior to the move to vBulletin - it was well over 2 years old. :(

I think many computers have a "karaoke" setting in their sound hardware settings you can temporarily hit to "remove vocals" (all it really does is blank one of the channels, I think the central one usually, in order to mask the main vocals) so you can sing along. Record your voice on an altered music track like that and it works. In theory at least, I've never tried it for myself.
