Hunh... I only beat you by a minute.
Rumor has it that the next series name is Chou Gakuen Magininger. I assume "Chou" is the new sentai word that will be in every title from now on
Maybe. "Chou" basically means "Super," so they're basically just ditching English for Japanese there. But gakuen means an academy or university campus, so that would be "Super Academy Magininger." It could be that "Academy" is a one-season thing, or maybe "Super Academy" will be the series title from now on.
"Magininger" sounds like a hybrid of Magiranger and Ninninger. An academy of magic ninjas? Ninjas in Japanese fiction are basically sorcerers already, so that seems redundant.
If this rebranding is a way to sidestep Hasbro blocking Japan from expanding it's reach to the west then how can previous sentai series be put on dvd? Isn't that the possible point of not calling it super sentai anymore?
If Toei and Shout factory wanted to release "Magiranger" on dvd it would still be a super sentai season with the tagline "Before Power Rangers........."
It would still be branded Super sentai right? That takes them back to square one.
They would only be able to expand going forward with the new branding
For example. Everything under "Chou" can now be marketed to the west without Hasbro making a stink "Hey that interferes with Power Rangers which we own!"

It would be ironic if, going forward, the only Japanese show with "Sentai" in the title were the parody anime Sentai Reddo Isekai de Bōkensha ni Naru (i.e. The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World). Although its "parody" of a Sentai series actually feels quite authentic.
How is Hasbro able to block Toei's expansion into North America?

Since, from things that were posted online, Hasbro seems to be the reason that Shoutfactory stopped their Sentai DVD releases, they must have some say in the Sentai franchise in relation to North America.
I don't know for sure, but since Power Rangers is derived from Super Sentai and incorporates footage and designs from it, that would pretty much require Hasbro to have a license to Super Sentai content. You can't show footage from another production unless you license it. Such licenses are not generally exclusive, but in this case, given that it's ongoing and extensive use of Sentai footage, it's possible that it is. Maybe someone else can say more, though.
Anyway, if they are rebranding as Chou or whatever, the question is, would we rather see them just change the name and keep the formula intact, or would we rather see them take this opportunity to shake things up and try something different? Like, do we really need giant combining robots? Maybe there's a different approach worth trying.

Ratings are down. Toy sales are semi okay. TegaSword sells well but they're still not where they want them to be

-Kids aren't interested in spandex heroes anymore. They'd rather be watching something quick and online.
But rumors are that there will be another role play/changer/ mecha in the form of a wand this time too. Key points are interconnect ability

I saw speculation that that's why they might be trying to get around Hasbro with a rebrand, so they can release the shows internationally.
I wouldn't mind if they reoriented it to be older-skewing, about the same age range as Kamen Rider. Though not much older, because the "adult" series in the toku franchises tend to be too grim and violent for my tastes, and often not very good.

Dang, and I made a point of rewatching episode 8 today so it would be fresh in my mind.

If Hasbro does have rights to Sentai because of Power Rangers, would that only apply to seasons that were used for Power Rangers, or the entire franchise? And I thought the new reboot of Power Rangers is supposed to be all original footage, so what would that mean for future seasons of Sentai in the US?
I don't think any of us here are entertainment lawyers with inside information about Hasbro's license, so we can only speculate. My impression is that apparently Hasbro is the roadblock to releasing any further Super Sentai on video or streaming in the US, beyond the, I think, 12 seasons from Jetman to Hurricaneger that were already out before Hasbro got the license. Maybe Hasbro got the license to the whole thing; maybe they see SS as competition. The fact that their planned reboot would be all-new might not make a difference in that case.
Rights can be weird sometimes, and unfair sometimes. I'm reminded of my frustration that Filmation's terrific 1979 Flash Gordon animated feature film has never been released in the US except for a single 1982 TV broadcast, because of Dino de Laurentiis's 1980 Flash Gordon movie monopolizing the film rights (even though the Filmation movie is much better).
Don't forget the weird Macross / Robotech Harmony Gold licensing debacle.
