Kai Winn and Kira

Willieck

Commander
Red Shirt
Don't you just wish that just once Kira would have turned on Kai Winn and said "I am not your child!"

Even though it wouldn't have fit in continuity wise, I think it would have been funny for Kai-Winn to really be Kira's mother just for that daytime soap opera reaction that Kira would have had, but the writers were too good for that.

Getting to your observation, it would have been funny to hear something like that but given their relationship, I think most fans could tell that thats what Kira was thinking whenever she heard that.

To be fair, I think the "child" thing was just something that the Bajoran religious people may have done when talking to a lay person. I have heard priests in tv/movies (and some older generation priests in real life), refer to people as "my child," "my son," or "my daughter."

In Kai Winn's case, it was probably a way to demean/put Kira in her place under the guise of addressing her "affectionately," but in and of itself, for someone like Kai Winn to address someone else as "child" is not intrinsically insulting.

Not really as it would have played to Winn because she would have been using "child" to remind Kira of her place and that Winn was her spiritual and (supposedly) moral superior. Kira not responding in such a manner showed control and maturity, where as tanty would have made "child" more appropriate.

I know that, but Winn does not deserve respect. She is a self seeking patronising hypocrite.

gah the writers did a good job because i literally hate kai winn.

You must be joking. She was magnificent. What a plum role for Louise Fletcher. She played it with such restraint when it would have been easy to overcook it and end up like the Wicked Witch of the West.

Nah, the fact that he hates her that much just says that Louise did her job well.

In professional wrestling circles its called "Heel 101".
