K9 episode 1: Regeneration

So, did anyone watch the first episode of the K9 TV series? It was shown on Disney XD in the UK as a sneak preview for the series, which apparently airs next year.

I can't say I was very impressed with it, but it wasn't nearly as bad as some of the comments at Gallifrey Base would suggest. It could improve. But it's definitely a kids' show.

The show's a semi-official Doctor Who spinoff, being produced by an Australian company instead of the BBC. In the UK what a writer creates for a show, if said writer isn't on staff, remains the property of the writer, and can be used in other contexts, which is why there have been a few low-budget direct-to-video movies featuring elements of Doctor Who, like the Zygons and Autons, as well as spinoff audios (BBV produced a couple of K9 audio dramas several years ago). This is the first time anyone's done anything on this scale, though.

I watched it this morning with my daughter (she's 8) and well, I liked it well enough, yes it's a kids show, but it is nowhere as annoying as say Hannah Montana or the Suite Life. My daughter liked and it and her first question after it was over is, when can she get a toy of K-9 like that! She already has the toy of the original from Character Options.
It was nice to have our man back as the voice of K-9 and the special effects weren't horrendous. All in all, it's interesting enough that I'd like to see a few more episodes before saying yay or nay, but my daughter likes it and that's who it's being aimed at so, more power to it.

Must see if it's floating around the usual places. is that actually the title... and if so, did we briefly see the original K9 before he "regenerated" or did someone else "regenerate"?

He's his old self to start with.

I certainly would have watched it with no Who connections if I was 20 years younger.

Since we won't be seeing this in North America for awhile, was this a complete story or just part 1?

People at Gallifrey Base are theorizing that this was edited together from a two-parter, because they think it doesn't do enough to introduce the regular characters, but it felt like a reasonably complete first episode to me. We meet the characters quickly, sure, but after 25 minutes we already know that character A is a _____, and that character B is a ____ ____, and that character C is driven by ___ ____ ______, and we know that they live in ______, which is now a _________ society, and that the show will likely feature ______, ____ ______, and __________ ___ ____. And that there are x regulars we can expect to see every week, including K9.

I'm not saying it's all that good, and sure, the story's a bit sketchy, but they're introducing characters and premise in 25 minutes.
