[The Nth Doctor]

I picked up The Invisible Enemy today, which of course includes the one and only episode of Sarah Jane's first spin-off, K-9 and Company: A Girl's Best Friend. Remarkably, despite my huge love for all things Doctor Who, I've managed to have never seen this episode, so I'm really excited about watching. Yeah, I know I should brace myself because it's probably not very good, but I don't care. Besides, there's a commentary track with Elisabeth Sladen and John Leeson (and a couple of other people), so that's worth it alone!

I'll probably sit down and watch it tomorrow.

I saw it before. It's ok. Her first adventure is a lot like what she's doing now in SJA, just no kids, super-computer, or any hi-tech gadgetry, other than K9 of course.

One is watchable, funny, with excellent writing and pretty darned good acting, while the other is Sarah Silverman. What's to get confused?

I find that an amusing image in my brain because of bleed over from that other personality.

The commentary is very good... Sladen wasn't at all happy with many aspects of the production. We also discover that she doesn't (or didn't) drive, negating the retooling of some scenes.

I don't know what happened to the guy that played Brendan but it would be nice if he came back for SJA for a guest episode, but maybe the guy isn't acting any more.

The episode was a splendid piece of nostalgia, but as Sladen and others noted in the commentary, the story felt underwhelming as a result of a rushed production. It certainly wasn't bad as I expected (the uber cheesy opening aside, of course) and I give the writer and Linda Polan props for completely fooling me into thinking that Juno and husband were baddies. One thing I did find amusing was Sarah Jane's comment to Brendan about not looking to be a surrogate mother.

That's how the years change you, I guess. When Brendan comes along it's December 1981, and Sarah is 31 (from what the SJAs have told us about her birthdate). When 'The Archetype' turns up, it's 2008/2009-ish and she's heading towards 60.. there's almost half her life between the two!

Seriously, that opening theme song is the most obnoxious one I've ever heard. SO glad it didn't get picked up for series, just because of that opening. "K9! K9! K9!" over and over again. Bullet in the brain pan squish. Anyway.

I assume the Doctor stole the Daleks floating technology and applied it to K9.
