So there a reason why Steppenwolf was super weak when Superman whupped his butt?

Is it because of Superman being kryptonian and having those abilities given to him from Earth's atmosphere and the sun?

The only reason Darkseid dared to attack Earth was because Superman was death, so I think they all were afraid of Superman/Kryptonians
