i kinda hate how they put Batman in all these DTV movies. anyway, JLD was one of my favorite New 52 books so i'll be picking this up when it comes out.

Yeah, I think the JLD concept could work just fine without Batman showing up. I think it would work even better if they just used the concept and didn't try to base it on the New 52 comic at all. I'm torn on this. I really disliked the comic and I loathe what the comic did to Zatanna. But, I'm a sucker for the DTV movies and the concept of JL Dark is solid. I'll give it a shot, and keep expectations very low.

I think your claims about Zatanna are way overblown. The first few years of JLD were quite good I thought and did a great job of bringing JC into the mainstream DC universe. My only problem was the use of the name Justice League, which was a ploy to sell comics when a title like Shadowpact or something similar would have done just as well.

This looks really cool. They even got Matt Ryan from the Contstantine TV series and Arrow to voice Constantine, and the current video game Lara Croft, Camilla Ludinton, is Zatanna. Those two are a big draw for me.

 I don't want to start an argument. I'll just say that As a fan of Zatanna, I loathed what they did to her. According to JLD she's a magical burlesque dancer and/or stripper who was a second class magician compared to the god of awesomeness that is Constantine (that book seriously treated Constantine like a god, the writer was bizarrely fixated on making him the king of the cool conmen who always won in the end). She was literally only in JLD to be a love interest for Constantine. As a fan of the character, that pissed me off almost as bad as what the New 52 did to Starfire and Power Girl. Not quite as bad as those changes, but she did become a character whose only reason to be around was her connection to the main guy, which is pretty screwed up (but normal for the angsty 13 year old boy focused demographic of the New 52).

i think the pre Flashpoint Zatanna book was really great. i was sad to see books like Zatanna, Red Robin, Power Girl and the Stephanie Brown Batgirl get canned for the New 52. that being said, i don't think JLD ruined Zatanna or turned her into a love interest only. i don't like her costume change, but i don't remember her actually being a stripper.

She wasn't a stripper--she was some sort of mystical club performer in one scene from the past. Constantine's back story was changed quite a bit too in order to weave him into the fabric of the super world. He was portrayed as being able to hold his own against Batman and Superman through his typical Constantine charms and that is pretty true to the spirit of the character. Similarly, K5's comments about Power Girl only refer to a very limited part of her backstory. I don't know anything about Starfire's new 52 character but I did read the criticism of issue one back in 2011 and have heard nothing since--my guess it is also a non-issue.

I'm pretty sure Starfire's character has been significantly changed since the first few issues of Red Hood and the Outlaws, so I don't think Kirk's complaints probably apply any more.

A little too much Batman for my liking, but DC's a business, after all.

It is kind of annoying that they tend to force Batman into things since he's popular, but at least here they seem to have come up with a decent reason to have him there.
