Just watched the Visitor for the first time

Just got Season 3 and 4 in the mail 2 days ago. I've been watching the crap out of these over thanksgiving. Anyway... just saw the Visitor.

OMG.. this..was..the..most..powerful episode I have ever seen, possibly of any television series. Is it normal to weep like an old woman to this???

Yes.

Truly one of the all time great's, and what Trek is so good at; sci-fi with the human angle.

Arguably Avery Brooks best work on DS9. Tony Todd turned in an outstanding performance as well. My favorite DS9 episode.

You're right on this one, the other DS-9 episode that comes close is
"In the Pale Moonlight"

Resistance is Futile

Best episode of any Trek ever, IMO. I cried like a baby when I first saw it. Not just any baby, a really colicky baby. Nothing else Trek ever did comes close to that.

One of the very best episodes of Star Trek - it's such a simple story when you take away the sf-technobabble... but it works so well...

Another episode just like this one is TNG's "The Inner Light"... when Picard realised that his other life was just a probe-induced hallucination...

And of course, TOS' "City on the Edge of Forever"... no matter how often I watch that episode, my heart really cries out when Kirk prevents McCoy from saving Edith. *sighs

TV shows really doesn't effect me, but this one did/does. I try not to watch alot (unlike IPML or WoW), only when the mood strikes me. I blubber like a baby, find MY little boy-tell him I love him and go fishin' w/him

I usually don't react too much to TV (kinda depends, death sometimes...) but I didn't "feel" this one as much "Ties of Blood and Water" maybe due to the whole affecting the past idea. But maybe when I see it next, since its been a while, I'll feel differently...

I tear up every time I see it. Great performances all around. It's rare to see a father/son relationship portrayed with such intensity. Like others have said it is my favorite episode of Trek period.

I'm not sure how many time I've seen The Visitor now but it always evokes a strong emotional reaction from me after all this time. It's a brilliant episode of Star Trek in general, really, and it's interesting that it's not like some of the more DS9-specific excellent episodes.

I agree about this episode, of course. It remains one of my favorite of Trek. I find it funny how every few weeks or so, there is a "I just saw The Visitor for the first time.." gusher thread and it is never ignored.

Goes to show how timeless an episode it is.

I didn't weep. But it was a sad episode to watch.

Still is... and I have seen it like a bunch of times.

Far Beyond The Stars kind of gets to me too. Something about Benny's breakdown just hits me.

I also cry watching Dumbo.

And, now, my man-quotient has been depleted for the day so I will depart!

I remember the first time I saw this. I had the usual Gang of Fools hanging at my house, waiting to play video games. I made them wait so I and my roommate could see the new DS9 episode. There was a little grumbling but everybody agreed to watch with us. Seven twenty-something guys and one gal and there wasn't a dry eye in the place at the end. One of those friends still sticks to the opinion that ST is "kinda stupid and nerdy"-but he always follows it up with, "except for that one episode about the kid growing old while his dad didn't-that shit was the bomb! I cried like a f---- baby!"(Yeah, he really talks like that.) That a complete non-fan can still recall its impact after all of these years is a testimony to the harmonious union of good writing and acting. And, yeah, I still cry every time I watch it.

depends on whether you're one.

correct answer: yes, most of us do. every time I watch it, I go hug my dad tight. dads are special people.

It just so happens that I popped it in and watched it again last week for the first time in several years. It is still Star Trek at its best.
