So I'm on the third episode of Stargate SG1. I haven't seen the movie. So far, I'm definitely entertained (granted, I laughed at some of the botched military protocol in the writing) but, so far, definitely fun to watch. I do find the fact that there is 10 seasons and a spinoff series a bit daunting (I'm watching via Netflix) but I'm not opposed to the commitment of a show like this if it stays compelling and can hold my interest.
The characters seem a bit "planned" right now; we have the rough guy main character, the supporting smarty nerd, the confused loyal alien, and the strong-willed woman with something to prove... but I'm definitely willing to give them a season or two to develop (the characters in Babylon 5 seem a bit contrived in the first few episodes until they get a feel for their characters).
Anyway, this is where I am. Should I expect more of "stand-alone" episodes? I started this show because I was shocked at how many bloody seasons it has. Looking forward to something new!
