Just Saw TREK for theFirst Time

Just saw the movie for the first time. I've been avoiding TrekBBS until I have.

So, what's the timeline consensus? I suppose we have to be in a new one now since there is no Vulcan.

I assume there are already people asking for Blalock in the next movie. I wouldn't mind seeing T'Ass again.

Okay, catch me up on what I need to know. I'm bouncing in and out of threads reading, but theres a ton, and many of you are being very cruel to people asking questions, so I wanted to get all the answers before someone takes a hatchet to my face for not knowing something Trek.

Okay, first question.

Did the filmmakers deliberatly create a new timeline so they wouldn't have to fuck with nitpicky canoneers in future movies?

^Smart thing to do. All the benefits of an established franchise without having your feet shackled to a bulkhead that SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FUCKING SHIP! And what's with a ZERO in a ship number!!??!! And that one thing should have been blue with three medium red stripes, not teal with three WIDE maroon stripes!!!

JJ Abrams and minions are referring to it as an "alternate universe"... so yes, it's extremely deliberate.

I also waited till I saw the movie before coming here, and it took me weeks to catch up with everything... so shoot some questions if you have 'em. I don't mind answering a few.

Welcome aboard the crazy train! People can be cruel here, but there are many more of us who welcome new questions. "Fire everything!" :techman:

Eh, why would they care? They probably just wanted to be liberated from worrying about canon themselves. Now they could bring George Kirk for instance into the story without having to assume he has a fatal date with some flying fried eggs in the future. That leaves them free to kill the guy off in a different way if they so choose.

My phrasing was poor, I'm aware that filmmakers generally don't give a rotten rat's ass about what a bunch of basement dwellers are saying about them.

Forums are hell. People who would normally be civil and polite are bastards online. Star Trek forums are the worst (maybe tied with 'Lost' forums). Run for your life!

Also waiting for this thread to be closed...

Why should this thread be closed?

I assume that the following is the reason...

Maybe I'm wrong, but we'll see...

I'm still lost. Apparently, this thread should be closed because I posted in it?

That timeline is great, except you forgot the Mirrorverse. ;) It's an alternate reality, as well.
