Just out of curiosity: What was right with TATV?

I gave OGAM a try, and despite having so many Trek actors involved, the story and script made the film unwatchable. This made Roddenberr on Patrol look like Ibsen. And this was the same producer willing to put up money to produce a fifth season of ENT. I think we dodged a bullet on this one.

Funny how this wasn't supposed to be a thread to talk about how bad TATV was, but it has managed to do not only that, but to also slag "Vanishing Point," "Carpenter Street," "Oasis," and maybe a few others.
There was no OP request against not slagging them.

And "Carpenter Street" insulted one's intelligence - unlike TATV. The Xindi need humans of every blood type to construct a super-virus... because so many of today's worst viruses, like HIV, don't affect all the blood types.

Wait, wtf? :rolleyes:

How many of you don't actually hate TATV? I thought it was in the worse half of the episodes, but still only just OK. It didn't work as a finale, and "just OK" is not nearly enough for a finale, but I don't hate it. The montage of the Enterprises is the thing I liked the most about the episode.

Considering that they had to put this together pretty quickly, after the knew they were being cancelled, I enjoyed this a lot. Sure, it had shortcomings, but it was better than the majority of the pre-Season 4 episodes.

Actually, Rick Berman has been quoted as having said that they put a lot of thought into this "valentine to the fans." I've also read that Brannon had the idea for TATV long before the announcement of cancellation.

Actually, it was one of the better episodes in my opinion. Considering how I don't watch Enterprise all that much, I may be biased, but I thought it was a very cool episode, bringing back a recurring non-crew character TNG style.

And *the pattern* continues... :lol:

What did TATV do right?
* Try to get all the Treks to meld together in one final wrapped present
* Provide a final farewell to a member of the crew - one that seemed to affect the fate of the Federation, indirectly
* Seem hopeful, as if the characters could look forward to something
* Have a few wink, winks to the fans
* Include all the captains in the "No one/man has gone before" speech
* Include the ENT main characters
* Include Shran
* Leave the possibility of some cool stuff between season 4 and TATV, including Shran's "death"

Thanks for asking! :)

Ah, the important stuff... You should have also mentioned how they got the color of space right while you were at it...

It kinda reminded me of an episode of M*A*S*H. Not really sure why or what that means. I just haven't posted in this for a while and wanted to reestablish my presence in the energetic debate!

:)

That Trip winked at Archer before he died. Don't get me wrong, his death was pointless and stupidly done, but his "Don't worry - I'll be fine!" attitude with mortal injuries was cool.

What I didn't hate:

1) Shran. Any time there's more Shran development, the happier I am. I really enjoyed that character, and I actually like the Andorians now because of him.

2) The feel that the episode wasn't the end of ENT, but rather a long-lost TNG episode. They gave us writers a nice big gap of time between Terra Prime and TATV to play with, and didn't actually definitively end any character's Starfleet Career (except Trip, of course. But, that's resolved in "The Good that Men Do".)

3) More Pegasus information. The secret cloaking device, etc.

I'm actually really glad they did that. It gives fanfic writers a way to bring him back (as was already done.) in a plethora of ways. I'm starting a Machinima Series set in the 25th Century but it will tie-in with the Temporal Cold War from ENT. I really enjoyed that story arc, unlike most people, and I plan to continue it myself with the 25th century being a new front for the War, and Trip will be featured in one of the Episodes.

I liked this as well, but if I didn't already know that Trip would be resurrected in the novels it could have been a "wait...what?" moment.

My husband and I watched TATV for the first time last night (we finally got through all the Enterprise DVDs) and, to be honest, I was expecting something a lot worse due to all the complaints I've read regarding this episode. Sure, it was, well, kinda stupid, but I enjoyed it. Let the tomato-throwing commence! ;)

This was awesome. But should have happened in season 7

What was right? Lots!

* Friendship and caring
* Mostly decent characters
* Good actors all around
* Some very good storylines and plots
* Romulans
* Vulcans
* Andorians
* Shran (specifically)
* A Vulcan first officer
* A flawed captain
* An anal-retentive security guy
* A bunch of innocence, learning and adaptability from everyone
* Some interesting aliens
* A cool-looking ship
* Some funny plotlines
* Some serious plotlines
* Mike Sussman and the Reeves-Stevens writers
* An homage to TOS without cheap rip-offs (well mostly)
* Capturing my imagination
* The Expanse
* Specifically the Forge trio, Twilight, Broken Bow, The Expanse, and every episode with Andorians

Hmmm... Many of the factors you cite weren't in These Are The Voyages. Did you mean to post this list elsewhere?
