Just great!! Another fan production....

This looks really wonderful, and the folks creating it are all first-rate. I've worked with or know quite a few of them.

Can't wait to see it - best of luck to 'em!

Definitely check out the link:

This is all in the do-it-yourself realm...if there are no productions doing the kind of thing that someone thinks ought to be done, they can develop such a project themselves.

Actually, I got to agree and say that looks to me to be a whole heap of fun!

But producing ST in this day and age with Filmation style production values is silly...Filmation itself was only producing that animation because of limited funds. Only hardcore Trekkers are going to care if something like New Voyages looks like the original ship/style. Modern fans will not be drawn in.

RAMA

Who are you to speak for "Modern fans?"

I think it will be smashing!

Unlike the pitches in Future of Trek, Fan Productions need not work for a general audience.

And, frankly, I'm thrilled. Especially if this new format means I get my Farragut fixed on a more frequent basis.

Since this is produced "for fans" and there are plenty of fans who love the style of TAS, I suspect more of us will enjoy it than won't.

I know I'm looking forward to it. :)

So who do you think are all these fan productions made for?

And I have to agree, the preview looks fantastic!

I'm looking forward to seeing the results.

RAMA, I know what you mean but animation is still in use today, look ate futurama, the simpsons etc etc. Captain Scarlett came back albeit in a 3d animated kind of way. All the anime from japan etc.

The quality of this is likely to be much improved over that of TAS but still have the same "feel". There's room for everyone and every style.

I'm sorry, but that just looks damn fun to me. Brought a big grin to my face. I was suddenly 10 years old again, in my PJs sitting in front of my parents monsterous 25" color console TV on a Saturday morning with a bowl of Cheerios waiting for TAS to start.

Nostalgia's not always a bad thing.

Rama is likely some rabid Star Wars fan in our midst. From what little I have seen of the Farragut AS it looks rockin. I especially love the eyebrow being raised by the Captain and last guy, forgot his name.

Can't wait to see more.

Someone really needs to get over themselves. The simple fact that it took a studio full of artist to get such an animation back in the 70's to produce this look and now it is being done by a handful of skilled fans says enough in itself.

Have you ever tried to reproduce a third season Kirk tunic exactly as it looked back then from the very materials used back then? It's no small feat. Same goes for reproducing this look. As an animator I can tell you that even the meager animation style that was TAS invloves mountains of skill and work.

That simply HAS to look exactly like something produced 30-40 years with no imagination. Professional productions realize that they have to move on but the fans can't seem to fathom this. Unfortunately it will me more of the same....

You seem to imply that there is no "art" or imagination in reproduction. Ever build a model? Learned to play a song? Perhaps re-created an article of clothing from a previous time period? Made a prop? Made a drawing of a favorite character? Built a set? Re-created a special effect (with or without a computer to help)?

Your implication appears to be that if something was done once, it has already been done to death. Therefore, no period pieces of any sort (whether it be Roman Empire, Old West, or the 1980s) should be made. No more stories about Robin Hood, Caesar Augustus, FDR, an so forth.

Adaptations are something else that require no imagination or art, so let's halt all movie adaptations of novels and comic books.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion and your likes and dislikes. Where you over-step is where you try to project your opinions and likes/dislikes onto the rest of fandom as if you were some sort of spokesperson. The disagreement you've seen here shows that you certainly do not represent ALL of fandom. It is entirely possible that you do not represent a majority. Neither you nor I know if you represent a majority, because neither of us has bothered to canvass the fans and ASK.

You live in a world where there is ample proof that not everyone is alike and likes the same things. You should respect that fact where it comes to projecting your opinions onto others.

Hello Rama. I happen to be the lead artist and associate producer of this project, and I gotta tell ya, I'm having a blast with it. We don't have an army of artists working on this and it is a HUGE amount of work, but I feel it's going to be worth it. Most people have been very positive about what we are trying to do. It's a tribute. I was 13 when TAS first came out, and it holds a very dear place in my heart. How can you say it's just "more of the same"? As far as I know, no one else has ever attempted to recreate TAS before. We are not a professional company out to make a buck, we are doing it for the love of Trek, a Trek that is no more. Hopefully we will bring back some fond memories.

I'd like to add that yours is the very first negitive comment we have recieved, so I think fans old and new are gonna get a kick out of it.

It always amazes me how fast one can grab a keyboard and say whatever they like without any regard to their audience. Let me be heard I say. Let me tell everyone I think it's a stupid idea. Please get out of your mom's basement and try to create something. But don't bring it to me, as I will spend my time trying to tell you it's a waist of time.

I could say things like that, but that isn't me. I'm an easy going person that works hard to support my family. I spend the majority of my free time as well as my fellow friends trying to recreate Star Trek with the same look and feel of the original show. It's intentional! I am also fortunate enough to have married a wonderful women that loves playing a part in Starship Farragut, lets me buy thousands of blank DVD's to burn our latest episode on and pass them out freely at every convention we have ever attended.

If you don't want to watch it, don't. I don't care. I'll be spending my time playing in Gene's sandbox as CDR Tacket. I get to make all of the props and create the shuttle craft that I wished I had when I was a kid. See Link Below. To all the supporters, writers, Production assitants and the many friends that I have met. My hat is off to all of you.

Thank you,

Michael

I agree that it sounds like a fun idea! TAS was before my time, but I recently watched the DVDs and they do have an endearing quality. I look forward to seeing the final results. :)
