Just give us new TOS

I don't need Star Trek, so I don't need TOS.

Neither do you or anyone else.

True, but Star Trek needs TOS.

I've actually come up with e crew listing and some episode ideas of all five TOS series. Starting with April through Phase 2. I'll hav eto post it an see what everyone thinks. I don't have any really good episode ideas yet just a couple, fun alien of the week ideas. But I imagine some awesome story arcs would do great.

So what?

You're disputing a point that no one has made.

This starts with your post:

We don't need a redone TOS. Just watch the Remastered version if you're un-happy with the original version.

To which I replied, entirely accurately, that while none of us need TOS some of us would enjoy this.

Much confusion on your part appears to have ensued.

I think so. I had to wake up early today. I'm friggin' tired. I'll re read this after I take a nap and feel like an idiot

I'm not interested in spin-off ideas, in series set in different places with different characters. There is only one setting, one collection of characters I care about - Kirk, Spock, Bones et all on the starship Enterprise.

No bloody sideways reboots or upside-down reboots or space stations or prison ships or whatever craptastic thing people are suggesting next week.

TOS has already been rebooted with the new film. If the film succeeds there will likely be sequels, and hopefully a new series. And if there is, I hope it's not some silly thing set on another ship like some are suggesting. I hope it's Kirk's Enterprise.

Or even better - Pike's Enterprise.

That's what I want to see, none of this other stuff.
I am all for this idea!:D except for the Pike thing, I don't think he's going to survive this movie!:shifty: Just a gut feeling is all.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Given one of the lines in Trailer #3 I think this as well

Let's just be honest with ourselves here, as long as ''I Hate everything Trek n sci-fi Les Moonbeam'' is 'STILL' in charge of PARAMOUNT'S T.V.Division I doubt well get any new TREK on T.V.:(

How about an Enterprise Phase II - ignore TATV (why, WHY did Trip have to die?!) , continue on after the Terra Prime arc, same quality as season 4 except without the crap that they called the series finale.

I also wouldn't mind a Mirror Universe mini-series of some sort. I do want to see what happens when the Terran Empire falls and the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance comes into power. (I didn't say series because with the volatile nature of the MU, I think we would need to switch main characters every half-hour :P)

TOS is TOS, no need to fix what ain't broken, IMHO.

See, the thing is, I need Star Trek: TOS.

I have a rare medical condition that necessitates regular injections of Spock, Kirk, and McCoy, (Sulu: "Oh, my!") or I will lapse into a coma, during which I will spawn evil duplicates of myself that can only be differentiated from the real me by their mustaches, goatees, and love of freestyle jazz.

This has happened once before, when Star Trek was cancelled. The result was the 70s.

I have been hanging on for years by using a steady supply of video tapes, DVDs, comic books, novels, and, strangely enough, the song "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys (it features an instrument that sorta reminds me of some of the effects on TOS). But I'm repeating them, and they're losing their effect.

The upcoming movie is the result of special cooperation between the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Paramount, George Takei's husband, and Jennifer Love Hewitt's breasteses, all in an attempt to keep me alive and well, and to save the world from my evil doppelgangers.

We can only pray that it works. I don't even want to think about what horrors could be unleashed that would top disco, otherwise.

BOOO-YAAA! Now that's what I'm ''TALKING''about!:techman: I'd be ALL for that, and they could use J.J.s Nu TREKVERSE as a template!:) That would help solve all of the ''canon'' problems that plagued ENTERPRISE.

I wouldn't mind a TOS with CGI characters...they look so lifelike anway......we could have Kirk, Spock et al parading through our living rooms and they can still be in their prime! All we need is some excellent stories and they can still do their own voice overs (the alive cast members obviously)...I think it's a lot easier to find people who sound like them rather than look like them. Anyone else think this is a great idea or am I alone in this?

There seems to be 3 or 4 basic approaches -

1. Re-do TOS, but stylistically do it exactly as it was done before - exact same designs, exact same uniforms, same cardboard sets, same props etc.

2. As above but take that a step further and CGI the original actors faces on the new crew. Use surviving original actors to voice it and/or sound-alikes

3. Complete CGI (or some kind of animated) series using the surviving original actors voices and/or sound-alikes

4. Redo the design, bring it up to date & recast the actors - essentially a nu-BSG / JJ-Trek approach

So, just to clarify - I am actually suggesting approach #4, but I can sympathise with the (somewhat romantic) urge to want 1,2 or 3. The practicality thing rears it's ugly head again though, and I relaise that 1&2 are not commercially viable. 3 possibly could be, but only if it's made on a shoestring - and there goes any chance of really good stories.

Quite an imagination and expansive vision you have there...

Be careful what you wish for Captain Pike!

STPTB could very well make a new Trek series as you're suggesting, but completely botch it:brickwall:

I agree with your basic concept or idea here. Tis what Captain Beckett's 4-year gallivant utterly lacked. And should've been.

If STPTB make a new TOS show I say film it in 16 mm, re-use TOS's music, lettering style & do the opening/ending credits the same way TOS did them.

I like the idea of such a show being pre-Kirk. Either Captains April or Pike:)

Captain Pike, you had an A+ AWESOME idea there for a 29th Century Captain Wesley Crusher Section 31 Briar Patch USS Try-hard series:techman:

WOW! SImply WOW! Hot diggety!

Are Reed & Bashir on the Try-hard?

What about Doc Flocks & Neal Icks?

Is Nog Wesley's 1st Officer? Jake the Com Officer?

WOW! That 29th Century show'd be a rawhide shoot'em up rin-tin-tin bar brawl melee in outer space 22 weeks a year!

Yippee:beer:

Me thinks Me like'em you USS Try-hard showboat eye-dear bestest best bests of all dude:bolian:

:vulcan::klingon::rommie:

Noonononononono!!!

Don't try to make something new look old! WTF??!!

Let it be new, but still living in the same universe. I care more about the quality of the stories than anything else.

I'm not trying to be imaginative or creative or artistic or offering anything like that. I'm merely just telling you guys what I'd like to see, what would rock my socks.

re-created TOS series - production values

1. Re-do TOS, but stylistically do it exactly as it was done before - exact same designs, exact same uniforms, same cardboard sets, same props etc.
Wow. That is some dream. Your dream to re-create a series made 40 years ago with the same production values.

This is like re-recording all of The Beatle's albums by the surviving 2 Beatles in 2009 with vintage guitar/ tube amplifiers instruments but with state-of-the-art digital recording technology. really. You cannot rebottle [re-create] something that took hundreds of people to create decades ago.
The closest I've seen someone really try recently is Rob Zombie directing films starting with 'House of 1000 Corpses' (2003), The Devil's Rejects (2005). He tried to emulate the 'look' and style of 1970s slasher b-movies by using Super16mm high speed film with a lot of grain in a handheld camera. I've seen parts of them and do not like the content or style but see that he tried.

Your vision is far-fetched and you do realize it but I'm just surprised you WOULD want it to look exactly like a TV show in the 1960s. It was lit terribly due to the film stocks not being very sensitive and the production design (sets/costumes) reflected a new technology. Color television. It was also overfiltered (on the women's closeups).
I'm still glad you spoke your mind and gave us your take on the 4 options you see.

Personally I did NOT like the 1960s uniforms. I thought that ST:TNG uniforms were okay and I did like the Voyager uniforms.

I'm pretty new here so I'm sure there are a dozen threads specifically about the uniforms from each series as well as each feature film...

Hey check out the Blu-ray of TOS in High Definition and I think you will see while it looked okay on a 1960 TV during broadcast it barely holds up on DVD but in High Definition you will see the illusion shattered.
