Just finished it [SPOILERS]

Ok so I have just finished the entire of DS9.
First of all how many of you noticed the theme matches the pacing of the show?
It is without a doubt one of the greatest shows I have ever seen.
The level of detail and small bits which link in everywhere is phenomenal. A lot of the time it gives you just enough information then leaves you to make the final jump.
If man was to ever find aliens and join some galactic empire, what would be the most dangerous alien race imaginable?
Shape shifters, because they destroy the enemy out of paranoia and fear.
All the story lines in the end were tied up perfectly, Odos was alluded to once or twice while single handedly ending the war with the dominion. Odo and Kira when they finally get together, I was thinking how are they going to do this without ruining it, but no DS9 never stopped out doing itself and got better and better and better. Not to mention the sheer brilliant interaction between the differing races and the depth of politics. Every episode begins with the zooming into DS9 as it gets closer to the viewer, then in the final shot we see it fading off into the distance. I am sad that I have now finished it, it was like a dream that I never wanted to end. I doubt there will be anything in our lifetime that will match the depth and complexity of this perfect show.

I'm glad you appreciate this fact. Sometimes DS9 acted like a meta-critique of other science fiction shows, including ST itself. There were no magic bullets in DS9, no "2d thinking," no "sleep command," no "exhaust port, right below the main port," no "use the Force." The war could only come to an end by convincing the enemy that the two sides could co-exist. Odo's ability to articulate that concept was then central to the resolution of the war, and it was subtley addressed throughout the series.

There was only one real story line that wasn't fully tied up. Bajor being formally admitted to the UFP. We now from "Rapture" it had been accepted.

Yes, the show appears to have been hand crafted to perfect precision. There was clearly a lot of care put into making this, and man it shows.

Well I think if they continued for another season we may have seen Bajor and maybe even the Cardassians join the federation.

I felt just the same. Thank you for sharing!

Ya it was pretty good. I could have done with a little less of the prophets and Ezri Dax though. Both were turn offs for me.

I cried in the last episode. I cried because it was over and I could never watch it new again. I cried because I would never know what would come after... Bajor in the Federation? Garak rebuilding Cardassia?" DS9 is the best show I have ever watched. Sure, there are many others that are good, but none as good as this one.

^ Yes! Couldn't agree more, Ward3. I cried too. But I also cried because it was a perfect ending. They tied up most of the arcs, but even those that were "tied up" were left somewhat open-ended. So they were punctuated nicely, but in a realistic way. In a DS9 way. I love it.

Well said!+++

This is why this show deserves to be rebuilt for blu-ray.

Welcome to our world Agent1138. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Netflix currently has the entire series available for streaming.

So I watched TNG first and it was great, and then after being left wanting more I started DS9 and it was as if the writers said, Ok we've had our fun now lets do something serious and a little darker. It instantly felt like it was shifted into a high gear, and you never thought it could get higher but it was a continuous flawless increase in quality.

I don't buy tv shows usually, but I will be getting this one on blu ray. I just hope they do a good job.

Thanks, I think this show is something I will keep re-watching my entire life. Something tells me it doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

I love the way they tie up virtually every loose thread. Genre shows that aired after DS9, like nu-BSG and LOST, are often sloppy with planning things out and we end up with unsatisfactory endings and random "plot twists." TPTB for DS9 did an excellent job avoiding those problems.

OP - I'm not sure how familiar you are with the franchise, but one thing that's really fun about the last 3-4 seasons is that the creators start throwing in subtle homages to other Star Trek events (e.g. Fizzbin), as well as some jokes poking fun at sci-fi tropes, and even at DS9 itself. Even the hack-ish jokes ("War. What is it good for?") come off fairly well onscreen.

I also just finished re-watching the entire show for the second time in over ten years, and you described how I feel better than I could. It's actually far better than I remembered it being, and it's aged extremely well. I wish there was Trek of that quality on TV right now.

I only have two negative things to say, and they're very minor:

1) Too many mirror universe episodes

2) Watching Dukat and Kai Winn feeling each other up gave me this face: :cardie:

But yeah, it's fantastic. I feel like I miss the characters now.

I do wonder what storyline they would have had if Terry Farrell hadn't ditched the show right before the last season.

Liked odo, and miles o brian. Liked Garak, especially in the wire.

I kind of hated odo returning to the great link, but hey, its where he wanted to go and belong...

It was pretty good. There is a lot of likable stuff and few things I dislike about DS9.

Even liked Bashir. (One of the minority)
